I did that for a while, they got me though. Which vpn are you employing?
Mullvad. I kind of suspected that I'd get banned, since Mullvad is one of the most widely banned VPNs on mainstream platforms. I tried to appeal it several times, but no matter how I expressed myself, I never received any response whatsoever. I have kept an account just to be able to lurk, but I hate their (the company's) guts. π€£
After Reddit cut off api access to third-party apps, I left. Well, not right away, I did give RedReader a try for a month or so.
I got banned for saying that nazis used to get punched at punk shows.
I came here after the Reddit API mess but still posted on Reddit.
Got a temporary Reddit ban for a short statement saying Biden was caught genociding, then recently a permanent ban for saying the only way Trump is leaving office is if 100,000 people drag him out. "Inciting violence."
303,000 comment karma, 8,388 post karma, 14+ years.
Going corporate is never good.
I wasn't banned, but I rolled over after 3rd party apps were taken away on the day they stopped working. I only use the app for it so taking that away made it pretty easy to stop and no i wasnt going to use their own because they forced my hand. Apps were limited on lemmy at that time and had to wait like 4 months before the one i used to use was released, but it was worth it.
Same. I was a Lurker+, reading a lot of content and discussion but only contributing and commenting to a few smaller / local subreddits.
Set up an RSS Feed for sports & my local subreddit (from old.reddit.com) and started using Lemmy in my browser. Now I use Boost. Haven't logged back into reddit since.
It works for my wants.
me too, thanks.
Reddit didn't ban me, I banned them.
You.. I like you!
I got 'soft banned'.
I had stopped commenting on Reddit back in 2022 after receiving warnings on similar topics. Continued to lurk and scroll. Now reddit has an uncloseable popup on web telling me to use the app. So I don't use reddit.
Haven't been banned yet, but I avoid politics on Reddit and I rarely post/comment over there ever since the 3rd party app fiasco.
Banned for using a VPN for βban evasionβ but never had been banned before.
Appealed. No response.
I took that as a fuck off message.
Not banned, I just like Communism, FOSS, and decentralization.
I quit after the second "Luigi" 3 day ban and haven't been back. That was towards the beginning of 2025. Reddit no longer has its clutches in me.
Me. I got shadow banned, without ever hearing why

I apparently said something bad about Lord Feltersnatch!
This is why I'm wary of the lemmy user base, a combination of individuals who have been banned from reddit and/or think they're too good for reddit.
There's certainly much, much more volatility here. Some people genuinely wrongfully banned; some... Less stable folks I think, "yeah you know what, you probably deserved the ban."
Banned from Reddit, must be a terrorist /S
You do realize how easy it is to get banned from reddit, since the IPO dropped, yes?
I was there for 14 years and 50 weeks and got sniped within 30 seconds of dropping a post that was critical of Stephen Miller.
I got banned from Twitter after a decade and a dozen posts for calling out an insurrectionist three weeks before January 6th, using his own couched language of violence and corruption. (I grew up in the 1970's and knew damn well what he was saying)
Going back even further, I got banned from the old ABC news forums in 2004 for pointing out that it was in fact, the unfair economic policies of the rich, that was the main reason that many women were starting to opt out of motherhood.
Some of us just got bumped for speaking uncomfortable truths about the consequences of unchecked power.
I consider it proof positive that I've been seeing things clearly for the last.. oh.. 45 years.
YouΒ doΒ realize how easy it is to get banned from reddit, since the IPO dropped, yes?
No clue - I had the good sense to leave well before the IPO.
Being banned from Reddit is honestly a badge of honor for the most part lol
"You don't go to the Nazi bar? What, you think you're better than them?"
I got banned in 2022 when I called out Russian fake news. Apparently to an admin and they took that personally. 12 year old account with no prior bans at all. Poof, just like that.
Yeah I feel better than that shit hole and so should you. Reddit isn't for the people that made the site big anymore.
I think I'm too good for reddit, why don't you?
Lemmy is very reminiscent of early Reddit and 4chan in certain ways.
I decided to be the change I wanted to see here instead.
I assume everyone is too good for reddit, until they prove otherwise.
So clearly the next topic in this community should be, βHow many of you have never been on reddit?β
Main user got eventually banned for liking a comment, i was on a last warning and subsequent alts got caught by machine algorithms detecting uncharacteristic behavior for a new user or some links to the original banned user, like device ID or browser ID. All alts got shadowbanned after first few comments.
After few weeks of trying different approaches i gave up and decided it's more effort to try to bypass the detection algorithms than it's worth to browse reddit.
