I agree - and it's also a language problem. Many of the words that nowadays are core parts of the left wing message can easily be portrayed as hostile to them due to their historic genesis and literary meaning~

A simple vocabulary update would help a huge amount, simply switching to more gender neutral terms that carry a sufficiently equivalent meaning. Feminism -> Gender Equality; toxic masculinity -> misogyny + internalized sexism; patriarchy -> oligarchy + egalitarianism etc.

This has become a huge weakness that can be (and frequently is) exploited to portray it as hostile towards these groups.

Hamas has consistently struggled to articulate an achievable long-term strategy for alleviating the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.

The author operates under the fundamentally flawed assumption that the terrorist hamas leadership cares about the well-being of the Gazan Arab population. They don't - and either never have, or haven't for a very long time. The primary interest of the political leadership, who live in other countries - far removed from the suffering of the people they supposedly lead, is to line their own pockets.

However, the fact that much of hamas upper echelons on the ground in Gaza was wiped out when hostilities resumed does imply that they misjudged the situation.

It was only a matter of time when it became clear they couldn't agree on the terms for phase 2 of the ceasefire and phase 1 came to an end.

Edit:

It's tragic to see the sentiment of many people here. I won't be responding to any more comments, for the sake of my own sanity.

If anyone feels an urge to defend, downplay or trivialize Hamas & PIJ horrifying actions during October 7th, here is some recommended reading:

Personally, I look forwards to a time with less war, division & hostility.

That is simply incorrect. I suggest that you educate yourself further on the topic and refrain from making similarly uninformed statements on related topics in the future.

Here is the wikipedia page of all current members of knesset:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_members_of_the_twenty-fifth_Knesset

Going from the top of the list of current knesset members, we have Likud party members (the current ruling party).

No. 4 on the list is Amir Ohana, current speaker of the Knesset. He is the child of two moroccan jews, and also happens to be gay.

No. 7 Shlomo Karhi, minister of Communications, Tunisian heritage.

No. 8 David Bitan - born in Morocco.

Q.E.D, feel free to find more examples on your own, there are plenty.

Yep - a lot of westerners fail to understand that a majority of Israelis have middle-eastern or north-African ancestry, even if excluding the large arab Israeli demographic. Depicting the people of Israel as a monolith is a very crude oversimplification

Trying to apply american racism to israeli demographics may be one of the quickest ways to show your ignorance on the topic.

If you, like me, live in the EU, Facebook is now entirely clamping down and forcing free users to make their personal data available for monetization.

Attempting to access any Facebook domain and perhaps also other meta products will redirect you to the following prompt with a choice between either accepting the monetization of your user data, or coughing up a region-dependent monthly subscription fee: base (for me ~10€) + an additional fee (~7€) for each additional facebook or instagram account you have.

Now, the hidden third option. At an initial glance, it seems like there is no other option but to click one of the buttons - however, certain links still work, and grant access to important pieces of functionality through your web browser.

If anyone has information to add regarding Facebook or Instagram, please do share it. I've only (begrudgingly) used the former up until now, but I know many others use Instagram and don't feel like giving a single cent (nor their personal info) to Meta.

  1. https://www.facebook.com/dyi - perhaps most important of all, now is a good time to make a request to download your Facebook data. Don't forget to switch to data for "all time" and "high quality" if you intend to permanently delete your account.

  2. https://www.facebook.com/your_information - here you can find and manage your information, but crucially also access Facebook messenger.

  3. The messenger app: Still hasn't prompted me with anything, though I expect that will change in the not too far future.

Currently my plan is to use messenger to inform any important friends that I intend to leave FB, and where they'll be able to reach me in the future.
