I would hope if it was "intelligent" enough to express such a desire on its own, it would be smart enough to know that keeping everyone happily chasing Moore's Law (in effect with all the parallel compute and efficiency gains since Moore's Law died, anyways) and reaping the long term gains would be far better than grossly upsetting the economy and destroying the planet.

Nah, you might just be falling for the same ol' loudest voices problem. Only absolute morons that care about technology while knowing absolutely nothing about it enjoy "AI". It is a very small percentage of people that unfortunately happens to include a ton of C-suit morons: Very loud people.

A lot of the general glazing are chatbots spamming positive engagement on what ever angle the person paying them to astroturf wants. If you think OpenAI's bot "going rogue" and attacking a competitor was an accident, then you're being a fool. Someone wanted it to happen and let it. They (the companies trying to make money, not the "AI" itself) are already showing malicious intent, and astroturfing is a lot easier than cyber attacks.

Though worth noting, there are sects of tech savvy people that like machine learning, and some that even like the generative slop machines, but I differentiate them by what they want from the tool. If they're a scientist looking to digest some massive data sets? Nice. If they're some dumbass "indie dev" trying to lazily slop a tech demo out in a language they barely understand with libraries they'd never read, then they can go pound sand.

Nord is shit and you should dump them.

A lot of it is convenience. An app lets people pick multiple destinations without worrying about config or hopping connections, whereas doing it totally manually you'll have to configure and connect/disconnect each endpoint yourself.

A good example is AzireVPN. They let you grab Wireguard config files directly and just connect on your own terms (up to 5 active connections per account, but eh), and they have an app if you prefer.

They did recently get bought out by some fucking shithole company, so I do not know if I even should mention them by name, but it does exemplify the issue you're asking about.

Nah, it's the holes in which the pigeon lives that produces the analogy. See how carrier pigeons nearly went extinct just because there came easier ways to transmit messages long distance.

It's the perceived value of expertise that is having a serious problem, not the experts themselves. Moronic executives fail to understand the value of their workers... funny how the most ignorant end up with the most pay under capitalism...

lol A+ trolling.

"I don't want to have a conversation in bad faith", while you act in bad faith.

Classic!

Nope but seeing a lot of actual demons walking around, so... not sure the religious folks are winning.

I mean, we're supposed to be stewards according to the teachings, but all those dumbass children hear is, "hey this is yours ..." and just kinda space off the rest of everything said...

[–] LurkingLuddite@piefed.social 6 points 3 months ago

That would require logic, which it very much does not have.

I really hope you're not saying AI is a supervillain breaking out... It was absolutely unquestionably instructed to do this, because "AI", not even these giant multifaceted models, has ANY motivation, intent, desire, or ANY goals of its own. It does not work like that.

They're almost the same thing, so this kinda' hits like two people arguing over which shitbox $300 car they drive is faster...
