Kind of. If a supreme being set into motion certain universal laws and always thwarted them for the benefit of this or that, one or group, the laws would be arbitrary, thus pointless. It's up to us to let the pressures d/evolve us according to the idea of (a limited by circumstances and variables) somewhat free will. Some believers consider the most ignorant and slavish among ourselves closer to God than the most refined with the most spiritual knowledge and/or means.
