I remember when an enthusiastic "yeah!" would end a politicians career and mark them as "too unhinged" to represent anyone.

"well you see, it's perfectly reasonable that he murdered a surrendered soldier, as he was just following orders!"

The "just following orders" defense still going strong 80 years later.

I'm sure it's going to be used a lot in the coming decades, assuming the governments actively involved in horrifying human rights abuses ever see any sort of reform...

I hadn't heard about this before this morning.

Now I want to watch everything that was going to be presented.

You know you're winning at life and on the right side of history when you threaten people's families to prevent them from showing an indie movie.

I propose taking that 1k, measuring against the average income of anyone who makes under 1M, and use that percentage of cost of living to fine the company appropriately.

Example: 1k fine for someone who makes 10k/yr, that 1k is 10% of their yearly income, whereas a company that makes 10,000,000,000/yr, that's only 0.0001%

When it's time for money: COMPANIES ARE PEOPLE TOO!

When it's time for punishment: but you can't hold a company responsible, it's not just one person.

If I give France $1,000,000,000 to use a specific shade of color, but make the color on Brazilian machinery owned by Brazilians... I've still given France $1B. Have I not?

They might.

Personally I mean the entire country goes back to pre-1948 borders.

Former Christian here: it is a cult. Full stop. You are throwing your decisions around based on a belief that there's some magical perfect happy place we all get to go.

Starting from that alone means we have VASTLY different goals. So many Cultists believe no matter what they do they're still going to paradise so fuck whatever happens here.

The staunch angry denial without a hint of reflection on how religion has undeniably damaged the world is very telling about what OP is willing to accept. I recognized religion has failed the world even when I was still religious.

No, I don't know there's nothing after we die, but I DO know there are things HERE AND NOW that need more ACTUAL FUCKING WORK and your prayers are worth the toilet paper I'll print them on.

And I am so fucking tired of "well they aren't TRUE Christians because we don't get taught that" any of the many, many, many, many, TOO FUCKING MANY TIMES when Christians, ÉN MASSE , do shitty things. No TRUE scottsman... My brother in education, you cannot keep saying your religion is peaceful when it rather spectacularly and historically is extremely violent.

This is exactly the dumb shit take from y2k.

I Still hear people go on about how "it was supposed to be this big thing and then nothing happened! Smart people are so dumb!"

Yeah nothing happened because a lot of smart people worked very hard to fix the goddamn problem, you fucking shitwaffle.

Here? "You dum dums got so worked up thinking it would pass and then it didn't, so the freak out was for nothing!" yeah it didn't pass because a lot of Europeans got very upset about their governments trying to spy on them harder than ever.

I'm not European, so I can't say how people talked about it openly on the metro with random strangers, but online? People were vocal and pissed. A PROPER government (lol can we have some of that functioning democracy please) listens to its people. This was them listening to the people.

The people's reaction was appropriate, and necessary. And shouldn't be lessened just because "lol you guys got so propaganda'd and it was obviously never gonna happen and I knew cause I'm so smart" is quite the take on things.
