I didn't know it was a popular belief that prenups, themselves are bad. I always thought it was because, for most of us, our only exposure to them is when something bad happens, causing the prenup to come into effect. Lots of negative associations with the tumult of divorce, the trouble that might lead to one, and the ugliness of the adjudication of the prenup, as they can get nasty.
also, as been mentioned here already: the lack of trust implied by even having one.
