About Channel:

Useful Idiots is an informative and irreverent politics podcast with journalists @aaronjmate and @kthalps

Yes, you are right.

To clarify, when I say independent, I mean independent from the duopoly.

Bernie is an Independent, but he is always running cover for Democrats, even though he talks like a revolutionary with his pseudo-populism.

I agree!

An independent movement for the working class is required.

We tried to push Bernie Sanders to leave the duopoly, but we failed.

It seems AOC is following the same failed attempts on purpose, out of ignorance, or to further her political career, similar to Obama.

AOC ran on being a one-term politician; that has dramatically changed.

Obama ran on hope and change, then became a president that increased drone bombings in the Middle East and a continuation of the status quo.

We must not forget the past US elections and where they got us.

Generated Summary:

Main Topic:

The video argues that AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) is likely planning a presidential run in 2028, but the Democratic National Committee (DNC) will not allow her to win the nomination. The speaker warns viewers against getting excited and donating to her campaign, comparing it to the experience of Bernie Sanders supporters.

Key Points:

  • AOC's Actions Suggest a Presidential Run: She's raising significant funds, touring the country with Bernie Sanders, and has an ad that resembles a presidential campaign ad.
  • DNC Opposition: The speaker believes the DNC favors status quo candidates and will not support AOC due to her grassroots funding and lack of ties to corporate lobbyists.
  • Comparison to Bernie Sanders: The speaker draws parallels to Bernie Sanders' campaigns, suggesting that AOC will ultimately be let down by the DNC, and that supporting her is a waste of resources.
  • Critique of the Democratic Party: The video criticizes the Democratic Party for not being a true opposition party, taking corporate money, and sometimes voting with Republicans.
  • Call for Third-Party Support and Mutual Aid: The speaker urges viewers to invest in mutual aid, direct action, and third-party candidates instead of donating to AOC or the Democratic Party.
  • AOC's Past Actions: The speaker criticizes AOC's past actions, including her stance on certain issues and her treatment of the Green Party.
  • DNC's Strategy: The speaker suggests the DNC will likely support a more moderate candidate, regardless of voter preference.

Highlights:

  • AOC raised 9.6 million in three months.
  • The speaker believes AOC is a "female Barack Obama in the making."
  • The speaker calls AOC a "fake ass leftist cosplay candidate."
  • The speaker urges viewers to "not fall for the scam."
  • The speaker highlights David Hog's plan to primary ineffective Democratic lawmakers.

Video Description:

Civil rights lawyer and social justice advocate Alec Karatkatsanis returns to Bad Faith to talk to Briahna Joy Gray about his new book: Copaganda: How Police & The Media Manipulate Our News. Alec focuses on the liberal media and political sphere to explain the establishment left's role in pushing mythologies that fund the police, defund social services, and make the world less safe. Alec responds to growing pro-police arguments on the left, that claim that the left needs to take crime more seriously if we want to win. Is Ana Kasparian right? Or does funding the police have no relationship to public safety?

Generated Summary:

Main Topic: The video discusses how mainstream media, particularly liberal media, universities, and non-profit organizations, contribute to "copaganda" – propaganda that reinforces narratives benefiting law enforcement and the criminal punishment bureaucracy, often at the expense of addressing root causes of societal problems.

Key Points:

  • Definition of Copaganda: The guest, Alec Karatkatsanis, defines copaganda as the mainstream news media narrowing our fears to focus on specific types of crime (police-reported crime) while ignoring other significant harms like wage theft, tax evasion, and environmental crimes.
  • Three Components of Propaganda:
    1. Narrowing the scope of what we fear (focusing on stranger violence and police-reported crime).
    2. Creating a constant sense of crisis around police-reported crime, even when overall crime rates are declining.
    3. Promoting the idea that more investment in police, prosecution, and prisons is the solution to these fears.
  • The Role of Liberal Institutions: The discussion emphasizes how liberal media, universities, and non-profits often unintentionally reinforce pro-police narratives through their reporting, research, and framing of issues.
  • For-Profit Motives: The video highlights the significant financial incentives driving the criminal punishment bureaucracy, including private prisons, telecom companies profiting from prison phone calls, and industries that benefit from increased police funding.
  • Root Causes vs. Police Solutions: The conversation underscores that crime is primarily driven by structural issues like poverty, inequality, lack of access to healthcare and education, and lead exposure. These root causes are often ignored in favor of promoting police-centric solutions.
  • The Shift After 2020: The host, Briahna Joy Gray, notes a perceived shift after 2020, where the Democratic Party seemed less willing to advocate for social safety net reforms as a means of addressing crime, instead prioritizing a "tough on crime" approach.
  • The Power of PR: Police departments actively manage the narrative through paid PR professionals who provide ready-made stories, video clips, and expert quotes to journalists, creating an asymmetry in media coverage.
  • The Role of Police: The guest argues that the role of the police is to serve those in power and enforce the status quo distribution of wealth and power.

Highlights:

  • The discussion of the inverse relationship between the amount of money lost to different types of crime and the amount of media coverage they receive (e.g., tax evasion vs. burglary).
  • The example of children of incarcerated people being denied in-person visits to force families to spend money on prison phone calls.
  • The anecdote about Ivy League professors being easily convinced to reduce police budgets after hearing basic arguments against excessive police funding.
  • The discussion of a Harvard study that called for the largest expansion of policing in modern world history, despite being framed as progressive.
  • The point that police misconduct is not a mistake, but the purpose of the police to repress social advocacy groups.
  • The discussion of the role of police PR divisions in manufacturing moral panics to influence political events.

"We can confirm the reporting that Chang Guang Satellite Technology Company Limited is directly supporting Iran-backed Houthi terrorist attacks on U.S. interests," State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce told a regular news briefing.

I wonder if they got this information from the same people that said Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia is MS-13 and Mahmoud Khalil is Hamas.

Iran, Russia, and China are all a part of BRICS and conduct military drills together. It would be better if our government learned some diplomacy and stopped our decades of aggression.

Key Points:

  • Trump & MAGA: The discussion touches on the disappointment some MAGA supporters are already feeling towards Trump's policies, particularly regarding vaccines and immigration. They see Trump's actions as potentially reviving the Democratic Party.
  • The Two-Party System: The participants express deep skepticism about the two-party system and its ability to address the needs of the working class. They argue that both parties are controlled by elites and perpetuate a cycle of control.
  • Importance of Mutual Aid: The panel emphasizes the need to build alternative systems like mutual aid networks to support communities and prepare for potential societal collapse. They stress self-reliance and community building over reliance on political saviors.
  • Critique of American Exceptionalism: The discussion challenges the idea of American exceptionalism, highlighting issues like the police state, healthcare, and the treatment of immigrants. They suggest that other countries offer better alternatives.
  • Israel and Degeneracy: The panel discusses the role of Israel and Zionists in promoting degenerate and divisive trends in culture, citing the 4chan hack as an example. They also touch on the history of Zionism and its relationship with anti-Semitism.

Highlights:

  • The arrest of pro-Palestine protesters at a Bernie Sanders event is used as a key example of the Democratic Party's perceived hypocrisy.
  • The panel discusses the potential for a new wave of independent media figures to hype up AOC, mirroring what happened with Bernie Sanders in 2016.
  • The participants analyze the strategic roles of political figures and movements in maintaining the status quo.
  • The discussion covers the potential for societal collapse and the need for communities to be self-sufficient.
  • The panel shares personal anecdotes and experiences to illustrate their points.
  • JB makes a guest appearance, celebrating his improved health.
  • The discussion touches on the historical context of Zionism and its relationship with anti-Semitism.

It is always a surprise that people fall for these smears—Chinese, Russia, Iran, Hamas (preferred boogeyman every time it comes up).

These smears continue to be US military propaganda so as to justify the wars, similar to all the ones we were in after 9/11, which were based on lies, but it was enough to stir the country into invading and bombing the Middle East for decades.^[[1] General Wesley Clark Interview | https://lemmy.world/post/23861196]

Russian apologist

No one ever brings up Israeli agents and apologists, where you can see which politicians openly receive bribes through Open Secrets.

Let us ignore Israel and continue to believe US military propaganda so we can continue these forever wars, where the owner class continues to profit from the working class being slaughtered.

[EU s15e15] Tariffs, the Working Class, and Resistance

In this week's episode of Economic Update, Professor Wolff critiques the DOGE practice of firing federal civilian employees, analyzes the Trump tariff program, and shows how both are presented as ways to solve deep economic problems in the U.S. but are actually an assault on the working class. The second part of the show features an interview with David Van Deusen, the former head of the Vermont state AFL-CIO and now an organizer of union-based resistance to the Trump program.

Generated Summary:

Main Topic:

The video discusses Whitney Webb's article "One Label Under Blackmail," which explores the connections between Sean "Diddy" Combs, Jeffrey Epstein, and a larger network involving organized crime, intelligence agencies, and the music industry.

Key Points:

  • Diddy & Epstein as Fall Guys: The article suggests Diddy and Epstein are not the heads of the snake, but rather figures being sacrificed to protect more powerful individuals.
  • Clive Davis's Influence & Scandal: Clive Davis, a key figure in Diddy's career, had a prior scandal involving embezzlement and alleged connections to procuring drugs and prostitutes. Despite this, he quickly rebounded in the music industry.
  • Compromising of Artists: Allegations that Davis, Andre Harrell, and Russell Simmons used drugs and alcohol to compromise Diddy, and that Diddy then used similar tactics to control younger artists like Usher and Justin Bieber.
  • Blackmail & Recording: Diddy's obsessive drive to record everything, potentially for blackmail purposes, possibly influenced by Clive Davis.
  • Mob Ties & Private Prisons: The article highlights alleged mob ties within MCA Records and connections to the private prison system. The video references an anonymous industry insider's account of a meeting where record labels were encouraged to promote crime in hip-hop to fill private prisons.
  • CIA Involvement & Drug Trafficking: Allegations that MCA Records had ties to the CIA and that the CIA was involved in drug trafficking in black communities.
  • Political Connections: Lou Wasserman of MCA had close ties to Bill Clinton, with the Wasserman Foundation becoming a major donor to the Clinton Foundation.
  • Death Row as an Intelligence Front: The video mentions that part two of the series will examine the East vs. West Rap feud and the deaths of Tupac and Biggie, and that Death Row Records was an intelligence front.
  • Corporations Profiting from Inmate Labor: Companies like Walmart and Microsoft are mentioned as having profited from inmate labor.

Highlights:

  • Whitney Webb's detailed investigation linking Diddy and Epstein to a broader network of corruption.
  • The allegation that record labels conspired to promote criminal behavior in rap music to benefit from private prison investments.
  • The suggestion that Diddy and Epstein are taking the fall to protect more powerful figures within the network.
  • The historical context of alleged CIA involvement in drug trafficking and its impact on black communities.

He says to organize around specific issues, like workers' rights, instead of having broad political arguments.

Whether they are Donald Trump supporters, Biden supporters, third-party supporters, independents, or nonvoters, we can be brought together to improve working conditions and for general strikes.

Chris Smalls did this when he created the Amazon Labor Union (ALU).

Edit: improved sentence flow and added all political groups

Generated Summary below:

Main Topic: How to engage in productive conversations with Trump supporters and introduce them to new ideas.

Key Points:

  • Despair as a Foundation: Totalitarian movements, including Trump's support base, are built on despair. Addressing this despair is crucial.
  • Rational Argument Ineffectiveness: Rational arguments are unlikely to change the beliefs of Trump supporters.
  • Focus on Material Concerns and Empathy: The best approach is to address their immediate material concerns and express empathy for their suffering.
  • Micro-Level Organizing: Organizing around specific issues, like workers' rights at a Walmart, can be more effective than broad political arguments.
  • Acknowledging Real Suffering: The suffering and disenfranchisement experienced by many Trump supporters are real and should be acknowledged.
  • Irrationality and Pain: Trump support is rooted in irrationality, pain, dislocation, and disenfranchisement, not rational thought.

Highlights:

  • The speaker emphasizes the importance of understanding the despair and suffering that drive support for Trump.
  • The speaker suggests focusing on immediate, tangible issues and injustices in people's daily lives rather than engaging in abstract political debates.
  • The speaker uses the example of organizing workers at Walmart to illustrate how to connect with Trump supporters on a practical level.

Well, the background is something that everyone should know or learn about.

I was reminded of Max Blumenthal talking about it.

AOC and others from the Justice Democrats won seats, so it is feasible.

I see them as a failed experiment that needed to be conducted.

Good luck and best wishes!

There are many third parties.

They also have debates.^[[1] https://lemmy.world/post/12656737]

I think third parties need to collaborate with each other to bring the working class together.

It won't be easy going against the duopoly; it never is. For example, we would just need to look at the trouble the Green Party has had to go through from past elections.

I would also like to see more third parties in discussions with each other while also going to talk with independent media and with political commentators.

Some of the third parties that are independent from the duopoly are:

  1. Green Party
  2. Libertarian Party
  3. Party for Socialism & Liberation
  4. American Communist Party (ACP)

It is always exciting when hearing about new third parties that are outside of the duopoly.
