I don't think anybody is arguing against a more efficient product. The issue I see is the multiple, incompatible versions with confusing naming schemes that exist simultaneously.

Dude, this so fucking hard. It doesn't even respect the system volume on my Windows 11 work laptop; despite being set at like 30%, my eardrums always get blasted at the start of the meeting. Every single time, I have to go into the volume settings and turn down the individual application (which has TWO volume controls for...reasons?), because apparently per-app volume is higher priority than system volume for reasons I have yet to find an answer to.
I want the old Volume Mixer back. At least that worked as any reasonable person would expect.

You should take a serious look at what actual companies run. It's typically nested VMs running k8s or similar. I run three nodes, with several VMs (each running Docker, or other services that require a VM) that I can migrate between nodes depending on my needs.
For example: One of my nodes needed a fan replaced. I migrated the VM and LXC containers it hosted to another node, then pulled it from the cluster to do the job. The service saw minimal downtime, kids/wife didn't complain at all, and I could test it to make sure it was functioning properly before reinstalling it into the cluster and migrating things back at a more convenient time.

I have a copy of Techstream for my Toyotas that will only run on Windows. My laptop is set up to run it inside an XP VM with USB passthrough. Works just fine that way.
I use OneNote quite frequently at work. It's so much more than a "handwriting app"... Hell, I use it often enough that I started using it at home years ago. However, I much prefer FOSS alternatives for my personal and home use, so I use Joplin Notes paired to a backup server I run on my home lab, that way they sync across all my devices just like OneNote does.
Glue is commonly used in vehicle manufacturing to bond panels together. It's typically stronger than welding, and is often used in the vehicle's structural pieces as well.

Linux gives you choice, sure, but it doesn’t just randomly break unless you’re doing something exotic.
I see it more as a pre-built kit RC car (like Traxxas or Arrma stuff) that in stock form (like a Debian or Fedora distro) is acceptable for 99% of the things we want to do with it, but also allows you to get under the hood and tweak/upgrade/change the inner workings to your liking with support from the manufacturer. Unlike other prebuilt cars from the toy store that have no real upgrade opportunities and don't want you under the hood, they are as-delivered with no other options...

Also, don’t expect Linux to make things faster, you’re still limited by your hardware. But do expect common tasks to work well.
