As they rounded a corner slowly, a few minutes from home, young Khaled and Mustafa recounted on Sunday, their mother, Waad, 35, asked her husband to pull over and take Othman from her so she could get something from her bag on the floor. Suddenly, the boys said, they saw laser pointers shining on their family from every direction, heard their mother scream, heard their father say “God is great” — and then heard a deafening fusillade of gunfire.

The Israeli police and military, in a joint statement Sunday morning, said that border police officers and soldiers, while on a mission in Tammun to arrest suspected terrorists, had “sensed danger” after a vehicle “accelerated towards” them and “responded by shooting.” They said the circumstances of the episode were being investigated.

Batoul and her loved ones were among the 773 Lebanese people – including more than 100 children – killed by Israel’s campaign in Lebanon since 2 March. They join a growing list of families completely wiped out by Israeli bombings, in a conflict whose death toll is rising faster than in any previous war in Lebanon.

Forty-one people were killed by Israeli airstrikes in Nabi Chit in the Bekaa valley in only five hours last Saturday, and 18 people died in a single night in the town of Sir el-Gharbiyeh on 8 March. The pace of death has stunned Lebanese people and left them struggling to keep up.

Leaving the regime undefeated could motivate Tehran to develop nuclear weapons and leave it in control of much of the world’s energy flows March 11, 2026

Yet 12 days into the war, Iran keeps firing missiles and drones across the Middle East, albeit at a slower rate. Iran’s ability to destroy with precision strikes some of the most sensitive and scarce U.S. military targets in the Middle East, such as radars for air-defense installations, didn’t go unnoticed. Should America abandon its Gulf partners after exposing them to existential danger, there will be inevitable repercussions in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

“This war hugely damages U.S. standing in the world, which means that China has much more scope to establish its own standing in the Middle East and the Global South generally,” said Steve Tsang, director of the SOAS China Institute in London.

“Meanwhile, everyone is observing that Iran has, at best, a middling military capability—and the Americans can’t take them out,” he said.

Cuban officials have held talks with the United States government to seek solutions to the crippling blockade imposed by Washington, President Miguel Diaz-Canel said, as the Trump administration’s threats to take over the Caribbean nation escalate.

“These talks have been aimed at finding solutions through dialogue to the bilateral differences ‌we have between the two nations,” Diaz-Canel said in a video aired on national television on Friday.

Diaz-Canel said “international factors have facilitated these exchanges”.

He said no petroleum shipments have arrived on the island in the past three months, which he blamed on the US energy blockade.

These diplomatic statements come after a sharp escalation in attacks and murders of Palestinians across the West Bank by Israeli settlers under the cover of Israel’s war on Iran.

On Thursday, Middle East Eye reported that at least six Palestinians had been killed in settler attacks in the past week.

Last Sunday, a group of 100 masked Israeli settlers descended on the town of Abu Falah in an attempt to displace the Palestinian residents. The attackers shot and killed Fara Hamayel, 57, and Thaer Hamayel, 30, and wounded several others, MEE reported.

Iran's military on Wednesday vowed to strike US and Israeli banks and economic centres in the region, after overnight attacks hit a bank in Tehran.

"Last night, the American and Zionist terrorist army, after failing in their military objectives, targeted one of the country's banks," a spokesperson for the military's central operational command, Khatam al-Anbiya.

"People in the region should not be within a one kilometre radius of the banks."

Forty countries gathered in The Hague on Wednesday to discuss coordinated measures aimed at enforcing international law in Palestine, as governments warn that Israel’s expanding settlement activity in the occupied West Bank amounts to de facto annexation.

The meeting, co-chaired by South Africa and Colombia and convened under the umbrella of The Hague Group, brought together governments from across the Global South and beyond to seek ways to translate political statements into concrete state action.

Founded in January 2025, The Hague Group was established to coordinate international legal responses to Israel’s policies in the occupied Palestinian territories and its genocide in Gaza.

As the US-Israel war on Iran began last week and Gaza’s crossings were shut, panic spread through the densely populated enclave, raising fears of a famine returning.

Palestinians rushed to markets to stock up on essentials, as soaring prices and shortages of key items, particularly vegetables, signalled the impact of the closures.

Gaza depends almost entirely on border crossings for the entry of food and essential goods, meaning any sudden closure is quickly reflected in local markets and household budgets.

Good catch, thanks. I added the original posting date, which was not in the newsletter itself.

What specifically are you talking about? The people mentioned in the article are true right-wing Jew-haters, not defenders of Palestine. And the publication has a consistent record of anti-Zionism.

What are you referring to? The "uncommitted" vote in the Democratic prez primary? Pro-Trump voters maybe, but uncommitted voters didn't back Trump, they were trying to move Biden/Harris to stop supporting the genocide, which was well underway back then.

But she also voted against the amendment that would block money for the Iron Dome missile system. Tlaib, Omar, Summer Lee, and Al Green of Texas voted for the amendment, along with 2 Republicans.
