That's terrible. 10km is quite shallow as well which has its own consequences.

I don't know how that works considering they can fly directly to US bases. I guess it could potentially stop them going off base, but i don't know how that would be enforced. I'm basing this off of some familiarity with military folks in Japan I've met.

This is me. We had a public holiday the other day and, since the weather wasn't great, I decided to start a new project to write code because I enjoy it. Also, Twitch's event/API documentation does not spark joy (weird grammar like "one of the following" what looks like a partially deleted line; response/requests that are in tables aligned by a number (only two, so good luck people like me) spaces to indicate level, and just plain wrong and missing info ("this API responds 202" -- LIAR!).

Except when the government is immune to this and passes things off as real since it isn't marked as AI.

Japan has various info on its website and, at least in Tokyo Metro, they send (or at least sent) a big disaster prep book to every household. However, we get earthquakes, typhoons, tsunamis, mudslides, and volcanic eruptions fairly regularly so we kinda need to be on top of at least the known/common threats.

A lot of cell towers (at least used to) have only hours of backup. In Houston when hurricane Ike tore through, cellphones were useless due to overloading at first, then various towers started going offline at 24, 36, 48, etc. hours. I think after Ike, at least some were upgraded to 72-96 hours, but I would not expect that to be the case at all in areas that don't frequently see disasters.

Might have been microwave link. We had those as part of our disaster recovery at a few places I worked.

I'm a dual citizen (and live in a third country). I wanted to show my wife more of the US museums and parks, as well as having her meet more of my family. It's 100% off the table now. There's zero chance, even for two weeks, I put my wife (who already speaks very little English) in that situation. Also, fuck giving the US any extra money.

Paul's drink apparently hit the shelves recently here in Japan (not in my rural corner but in urban areas). Because of japanese defamation laws, I can't say anything (even saying something 100% provably true can get you sued here), but it sure would be a shame if people brought it up a lot in English and japanese on the internet a lot

As someone living in Japan, I'm angry at the limp punishment he got here. I hope he gets the book thrown at him
