In a rare meeting with heads of 40 multinational companies, Chinese leader Xi Jinping sought to strike a contrast with protectionist President Donald Trump.

“China was, is, and will be an ideal, safe, and promising investment destination for foreign investors,” Xi told the gathering, which included leaders from American businesses including Pfizer, FedEx and asset manager Blackstone. “Going with China is going with opportunities, believing in China is believing in tomorrow, and investing in China is investing in the future.”

 

Imamoglu, who is President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s main political rival, accused the US and Europe of prioritizing geopolitical interests over democratic values.

“Their silence is deafening,” Imamoglu wrote of world governments. “Washington merely expressed ‘concerns regarding recent arrests and protests’ in Turkey. With few exceptions, European leaders have failed to offer a strong response.”

 

"In short, America's plans in relation to Greenland are serious," President Putin said in an address to Russia's Arctic Forum in Murmansk.

"These plans have deep historical roots. And it's clear that the US will continue to systematically pursue its geo-strategic, military-political and economic interests in the Аrctic.

A senior RAF source told The Telegraph that British air cover would have been discussed at the meeting because in the event UK soldiers go into Ukraine, “there will be a requirement for top cover”.

“We would never send British troops out on the ground without giving them air cover,” he said.

The RAF would provide either Typhoons or F35s as both provide “excellent air-to-air policing”.

 

"China will not even be mentioned or discussed," Trump said in a post about the Pentagon meeting on Truth Social on Thursday.

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said in a post on X that the meeting would be "about innovation, efficiencies & smarter production."

 

The Pentagon is scheduled on Friday to brief Elon Musk on the U.S. military’s plan for any war that might break out with China, two U.S. officials said on Thursday.

Another official said the briefing will be China focused, without providing additional details. A fourth official confirmed Mr. Musk was to be at the Pentagon on Friday, but offered no details.

Turkish authorities identified 261 social media accounts, including 62 based abroad, for "provocative posts" following the detention of Imamoglu and 105 others, and were continuing efforts to track down the remaining suspects, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on X.
