I bought tuya smart thermostats and they rotate for a second now and then (it sums up when you spend time in that room). It is annoying. Is that normal? Can I stop them from doing that? They shall only rotate when they adjust the temperature.

Do other brands behave the same?

From Bloomberg:

Australia will ban supermarket price gouging from July 1 under a new law the government says would protect shoppers from excessive grocery prices charged by major retailers.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Assistant Minister for Competition Andrew Leigh said the changes would make it illegal for “very large” grocery chains to charge prices deemed “excessive” relative to their cost of supply plus a reasonable margin.

Penalties would be steep: as much as A$10 million ($6.7 million) per violation, or three times the value of any benefit gained, or 10% of annual turnover if that figure can’t be determined.

I don't know what "excessive" means and what the rate would be.

When "The Sorrow of War" was honoured by Vietnam's government as one of the 50 greatest works of literature and art since reunification, some conservative figures reacted with fury -- suggesting the novel's unvarnished depictions of the war diminished the victors' heroism.

US Central Command reports an ambush on Saturday, the first attack to inflict US casualties since fall of Bashar al-Assad

Two US army soldiers and one American civilian interpreter have been killed and several other people wounded in an ambush on Saturday by the Islamic State group in central Syria, the Pentagon said.

The attack on US troops in Palmyra is the first to inflict casualties since the fall of the former Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, a year ago.

The US has hundreds of troops deployed in eastern Syria as part of a coalition fighting the Islamic State.

Overall, at least 13 buildings - already partly damaged from Israeli bombing - collapsed due to heavy rain and strong winds, according to the Gaza-based Government Media Office. Some people remain trapped under the rubble, with others wounded.

Meanwhile, over 27,000 tents of displaced families have been destroyed or swept away by floods and strong winds. More than 250,000 displaced people have been affected by rain, floods, and collapsing shelters.

Over 4,300 distress calls have been made across the Gaza Strip since the storm began earlier this week, the Ministry of Interior and National Security said.

Despite limited resources, the ministry said search-and-rescue civil defence teams, along with police, are doing their best to help people.

“From the first day we came back, we heard bombardment, demolitions and gunfire,” Hamed said.

“It would start at sunset and continue until dawn.”

At first, they assumed the explosions were far away, believing the Yellow Line was still distant.

But now, Hamed can see the yellow concrete blocks placed by Israeli forces from his window – a sight that wasn’t there just weeks ago.

Across Gaza, the temporary demarcation line has been shifting, creeping ever closer to densely populated areas and fuelling fears of renewed displacement and violence by Israel.

I told my friend I was learning music. She asked what I was trying to learn, so I said music. She asked what in specific, so I gave her the current list. She thinks I'm kidding.

  • Guitar
  • Ukulele
  • Piano
  • Music theory
  • Reading music
  • Finger drumming
  • Abelton
  • Renoise
  • Bitwig
  • Maschine
  • Pigments
  • Buttersynth
  • Deluge
  • Minifreak
  • Polyend Play
  • Polyend Tracker
  • Dirtywave M8
  • Chompi
  • Abelton Note
  • Koala
  • Loopy Pro

Those are the things I'm actively working on with a laundry list of other things for later. The moment I get a little bored with one thing, I jump to another.

If I cut a thing in two, are the two pieces together exactly the same size as the original?

Or to rephrase it: does a knife/scissors/etc just split something or does it remove something?

For the better part of a century, there was one thing even the U.S. government would not do to pad the profits of defense contractors.

Now, more than 80 years of precedent may be coming to an end.

On Thursday, lawmakers in the House approved a “pilot program” in the pending Pentagon budget bill that could eventually open the door to sending billions to big contractors, while providing what critics say would be little benefit to the military.

The provision, which appeared in the budget bill after a closed-door session overseen by top lawmakers, would allow contractors to claim reimbursement for the interest they pay on debt they take on to build weapons and other gadgets for the armed services.
