What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is a selfhosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top.

Think of it as an opensource alternative to reddit!

I have recently made post about reporting any ACP (American Communist Party) infiltrators. Though in this post I want to provide evidence to you all on the Deprogram-Forum, and the rest of Lemmy-grad on how the ACP is deliberately brigading other leftists reddit-subs. The Attached Image is the evidence that this was a planned and organized brigade.

The call to brigade other leftists’ spaces, came from the chairman of the ACP himself, Haz Al-Din (his reddit username is Infrared Show). He posted this call on r/AskSocialists which is now a completely ACP-compromised subreddit. It was then reposted on r/LeftAgainstACP, and this is also how most of us found out.

Current situation Summary:

  • There were many attempts of the ACP trying to brigade leftists’ subs, and also even conservative subs (for rage bait I guess, or spreading more reactionary bs)

  • Many actual leftists made posts about it, and a call to ban them if you see them.

  • Thus far ACP people have tried to brigade or brigaded: r/AskSocialists (successfully), r/Socialism, r/TankieTheDeprogram (unsuccessfully), r/SocialistGaming (you could mostly find ACP apologist on my anti-ACP post in that sub, which are promptly banned).

  • When I searched ACP, in the reddit search bar I even saw that they were posting in r/ConservativeYouth, where the post was immediately removed from.

  • They also actively tried to target r/GenZeDong.

If you want to add more subs that have been infiltrated by the ACP, pls leave them below in the comments section.

The ACP

As a brief reminder the ACP is not our friend, nor are they actual leftists. Jackson Hinkle (among others) founded the ACP, and its current chairman is Haz Al Din. Midwestern Marx is also another ACP affiliated figure.

They claim to be Marxist–Leninist, but many critics argue they are not Marxist at all, instead promoting a blend of socially conservative, nationalist, and pro-authoritarian politics. Essentially Strasserims, Nazbolism. They are Nazis who use the USSR as an aesthetic branding.

They oppose much of what communism has stood for historically: they reject liberal-left “woke” politics, express support for nationalist and reactionary stances. In practice, their activities have centred on online propaganda (TikTok, Twitter), political positioning, and alignment with authoritarian regimes. They also call themselves** MAGA-Communists,** and socially conservative and claim that Marxism is historically conservative.

This is not Marxism, so please report them if you see them.

What can we do?

  • Support your mods in your favourite online spaces by reporting brigadiers.
  • Help inform other leftists , about why the ACP is bad.
  • Support and watch r/LeftAgainstACP for more information.
  • Share or create actual Marxist social media content, so that the ACP cannot dominate the conversation online. Support those creators who are successfully calling them out.
  • Make sure your discord servers have a verification-process

-Get organized in IRL, support unions and actual leftists’ parties.

If you have more solutions pls leave them below

Also this post is not meant to cause mass hysteria, its purpose is to document what the ACP has done yesterday and start a conversation.

Anyway, leave your thoughts, comments, and feedback below.

N.B: I am not going to add links here right now because I am not sure how it works with tracking on this platform, and I do not want to invite the ACP in.

Been trying to figure out a user friendly alternative that I can get my less technical friends to transition to. We all use Signal already for messaging but it just doesn't fulfill our screenshare needs.

Most important feature it needs is the ability to screenshare with system audio, such as for streaming games or watching videos.

I'd ideally also like it to be E2EE just for the sake of privacy and security.

From what I've read and looked into it seems the closest thing that meets my needs would be Teamspeak 6 as you can host it yourself, and with the new update it now allows screenshare with audio (either as P2P or via server).

As far as I can tell chat messages don't persist by default but it can be enabled (and this would be a feature my friends would really want too).

I currently have a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ but I'm aware it's a bit old and is ARM so I'm thinking of buying a Pi 5.

Do you think I'm on the right track here or are there any other options this community would recommend?

Half genuine question.

Some streamers I watch have described themselves a business owners and to an extent they are. I think? They have employees or in some cases, co-owners but they entirely depend on streaming platforms and brand deals for revenue. In some ways they function as workers for streaming/entertainment companies like twitch or youtube but does this make them proletarian if they also sell commodities? Idk how brand deals work exactly so correct me if I am wrong but normally streamers/youtubers sign deals with companies to create products that use their image to advertise a commodity for which they receive a decent margin of the profits right? Is this bourgeois? They don't own the commodity production right? They are still receiving surplus value but how is this considered a business? Is there a class analysis of streamers I can read somewhere because I feel like this is getting into the nitty gritty of class and I honestly haven't moved beyond semi-proletariat, proletariat, petit-bourgeois, and monopoly bourgeois with peasant sometimes thrown into the mix. Wth is a streamer even. Anyway I am drunk and bored

This is in badposting because it is about streamers.

Someone in my street keeps harassing me and my family, and I lost my temper 2 days ago and whacked a bunch of things off a shelf. One of the heavier things ended up falling on my soup bowl and smashed a third of it. That specific soup bowl has been discontinued for many years. The manufacturer did make very similar soup bowls just with a different pattern on them, but they're old and only being sold on places like Ebay. I'm going to take the bowl out of the trash tomorrow and measure it in detail and maybe post it on Facebook to see if anyone has this bowl. I feel like a whole bunch of nice memories have been literally smashed, like that bowl was with me for all that time and I smashed it by accident. That bowl was like a friend and reminded me of a time in my life where I was happy so just ordering some generic soup bowl that isn't extremely similar or the same is going to remind me of what I've lost.

Is Japan the “Israel“ of Asia? Not even close. The data shows Japan committed atrocities on a scale that dwarfs almost any other nation in modern history—and they've never been held accountable.

Russia and the US did not make progress toward a peace deal for Ukraine during their talks, a senior aide to Vladimir Putin has said, hours after the Russian president issued threats that Russia was ready for war with Europe.

In remarks to Russian media, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said that after a five-hour meeting with Trump envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, the two sides were “neither further nor closer to resolving the crisis in Ukraine. There is a lot of work to be done.”

The downbeat assessment of Tuesday night’s diplomacy follows combative opening statements from Putin as Witkoff and Kushnerarrived for talks at the Kremlin, in which he accused European powers of sabotaging peace in Ukraine and that “European demands” on ending the war were “not acceptable to Russia”.

\Petition says Colombia citizen Alejandro Carranza Medina was illegally killed in US airstrike on 15 September

A family in Colombia filed a petition on Tuesday with the Washington DC-based Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, alleging that the Colombian citizen Alejandro Carranza Medina was illegally killed in a US airstrike on 15 September.

The petition marks the first formal complaint over the airstrikes by the Trump administration against suspected drug boats, attacks that the White House says are justified under a novel interpretation of law.

The IACHR, part of the Organization of American States, is designed to “promote and protect human rights in the Western Hemisphere”. The US is a member, and in March the Trump administration’s state department wrote: “The United States is pleased to be a strong supporter of the IACHR and is committed to continuing support for the Commission’s work and its independence. Preserving the IACHR’s autonomy is a pillar of our human rights policy in the region.”

Good morning/evening my selfhosting friends,

I'm kind of a noob, so hopefully I can articulate what I'd like to accomplish well. I am currently in the process of overhauling my entire homelab, which has involved me setting up a VPS as a proxy/tunnel for remotely connecting to/exposing services on my LAN due to my ISP having me behind CGNAT.

Currently, I have a subdomain (provided via Namecheap) pointed at the static IP of the VPS. With this, I can ssh into my server with ssh root@vps.domain.tld which is what I want. Now, I seem to have landed on Pangolin for accomplishing the aforementioned proxy. However, when installing it, I'm stumped by the first few questions: Pangolin wants me to input my domain.tld, followed by pangolin.domain.tld for Pangolin specifically.

Reading the docs, they then want me to either create an A Record for a wildcard domain at my VPS' IP, or create a root domain record aimed at the IP. My question is, how do I keep the vps.domain.tld while also allowing for pangolin.domain.tld to be valid at the same IP? I know I can create SRV Records, but I am unsure how Pangolin will handle that with the multiple TCP/UDP ports it needs open. I'll also want to access it via HTTPS obviously, which may add some complexity.

I hope this makes sense, sorry if anything is unclear or if the solution is obvious.
