Time will tell if they are trustworthy, but for the extra paranoid it might make sense to pause updates for a while.

Meanwhile, Poland's defence chief Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the army would examine 120 kilometres of the Warsaw-Lublin-Hrubieszów line, which links the capital to Ukraine by rail and road.

A railway line linking Warsaw to southeastern Poland was damaged by a weekend explosion that Prime Minister Donald Tusk called an "unprecedented act of sabotage".

Tusk, who visited the site on Monday, said the line is "crucially important for delivering aid to Ukraine."

"Unfortunately, the worst fears have been confirmed," the Polish leader said in a statement Monday.

"An act of sabotage has occurred on the Warsaw-Lublin route. An explosion has destroyed the railway track."

“We are more than a national team, we represent a story of pain but also hope,” Ihab Abu Jazar said, “and we are not alone.” At 8.26pm on Saturday the Palestine coach, whose father was killed in the Israel-Gaza war and whose siblings now live in tents in Khan Younis, emerged from the tunnel and took his place by the bench at San Mamés, Bilbao. Dressed in black, a keffiyeh over his shoulders, he watched 11 men in red, “a team of refugees playing for Palestinians all over the world”, and listened to 51,396 people applaud them, chanting for their freedom.

Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul will face each other in a heavyweight fight in Miami on 19 December, it has been confirmed.

Rumours of the fight between Paul, a YouTuber-turned-boxer, and Joshua, the British former heavyweight champion of the world, had been trailed earlier this month and Paul’s company, Most Valuable Promotions, confirmed the news on Monday. The fight will be shown live on Netflix.

“This isn’t an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day,” said Paul. “A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title. To all my haters, this is what you wanted. To the people of the United Kingdom, I am sorry. On Friday 19 December, under the lights in Miami, live globally only on Netflix, the torch gets passed and Britain’s Goliath gets put to sleep.”

From a skyscraper in downtown Manila, a sea of white spreads out below, covering the vast green lawns of Rizal Park and expanding down arterial roads and sidestreets. It is formed of more than half a million people, clad in matching white T-shirts, the slogan “transparency for a better democracy” emblazoned on their chests.

The focus of the fury is on company owners, government officials and parliament members accused of pocketing billions in funds for substandard or nonexistent flood protection projects. Since the scandal began, the country’s economic planning minister has said up to 70% of public funds allotted for flood control may have been lost to corruption; some senators have estimated 50%. Government investigators have discovered more than 400 “ghost” flood protection projects that were reported to have been completed but turned out to be nonexistent.

The absence of those protections is felt keenly in the Philippines, where hundreds of people have died in typhoon-related flooding over the past month. More than 20 typhoons have hit the country’s territory this year, and extreme weather increasingly derails daily life. As the rally formed on Sunday, authorities and families were still searching for those missing from Typhoon Kalmaegi, which ripped through the country in early November, killing at least 269. The 100 or so still missing are likely to also have been killed. Days after Kalgaemi blew through, Typhoon Fung-wong arrived, causing more devastating floods, displacing 1.4 million people and killing another 28.

Russia’s largest silicon plant will suspend operations from Jan. 1, 2026, its owner announced Monday.

Metals group Rusal said its decision to shutter the Kremniy plant in the Irkutsk region was prompted by a lack of demand, with imported silicon now significantly cheaper than domestic output and foreign production continuing to rise.

It added that Russian silicon is also struggling to find buyers on global markets.

Rusal said it has notified local authorities of the planned shutdown and expects support in mitigating the “social consequences.”

Its other silicon facility, the Silicon Ural plant, will keep operating at reduced capacity.

Rusal earlier said it would cut its 2025 silicon production to 35,000 tons due to competition from China, down 35% from its 2024 output of 53,400 tons.

The Western Balkan country is expected to conclude accession talks by the end of 2027, putting it on track to become a member of the EU by 2030. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the EU has injected momentum into negotiations, calling it a geopolitical imperative.

But some hurdles remain, Commissioner Kos argued.

“Now is the moment to accelerate, especially in critical areas such as justice reform, judicial independence, and the fight against corruption,” the Commissioner said after the seventh EU-Albania Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels on Monday.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama praised the EU's fresh push for enlargement, arguing that the progress made this year reflects a decade of efforts.

“What Albania and the Albanians win in this process is something beyond the formal accession itself, Rama stated. “We win a country that functions based on institutions, on the rule of law, on all the standards and the principles that make the EU countries so admirable”.

Speaking at the Euronews EU Enlargement Summit earlier this month, the Albanian PM said that he is hopeful momentum will accelerate over the next two years, a crucial period as all candidates must gather approval from the 27 member states.

Dalia Energy recently signed planning, procurement and construction agreements with three Chinese companies, CHEC, HEI and THCC, for the construction of two power plants. The agreements include the construction of the Dalia 2 power plant at the Tzafit site, with a NIS 3.8 billion budget, and the Eshkol Avshel power plant at the Eshkol power plant site, with a NIS 3.3 billion budget.

On government tenders, a process is underway in which investments by Chinese companies are examined by the Foreign Investment Review Committee, which has blocked several investments by Chinese companies in Israel in recent years. However, they have found a back door to enter investments in critical facilities by signing agreements with private companies, such as Dalia.

China Harbor, part of the consortium that won the construction of the two Dalia power plants was previously disqualified from the tender to build a refinery port in Haifa. After Israel Ports Co. took this step "for national security reasons," the Chinese appealed to the courts. Last year, a judge in the Tel Aviv District Court explained that he intended to rule against China Harbor and dismiss the petition that was presented to him. The Chinese company subsequently withdrew the petition to avoid a ruling.

Dalia's ventures are not the first for China Harbor in the energy sector. Complaints were also raised about the company's involvement in the construction work of the Kesem power plant, but at that time the National Security Council found no problems with the project. "The foreign company is not establishing or operating the plant but rather performing contract work for the builder (work estimated to be very small in scope compared with the project)," the National Public Works Department wrote in response to a request from the Rosh Ha’Ayin Municipality.

...

There are also strategic infrastructures that have already been built with Chinese assistance. For example, in February 2025, the Kochav Hayarden pumped storage power plant, which was built with an investment of NIS 2 billion, began operations. PowerChina was the contractor and builder of the project. At the same time, there are Chinese companies that hold ownership: PMEC holds 33.3% of the Alon Tavor power plant, alongside Israeli partners Mivtach Shamir and Rapac.

Not a single word about China

Last week Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Eli Cohen responded to a question submitted by MK Moshe Tur-Paz (Yesh Atid) on China. "The State of Israel is a free market economy that wants there to be competition in all construction of infrastructure facilities. We are of course working with everyone," Cohen said, without the word "China" appearing in his answer.

"Despite this, and I am not referring to any specific country, there is a body in the National Security Council that is responsible for examining foreign investments, and in any instance where there is concern that that entity has interests that could harm the national security of the State of Israel, then we forward the request, and any request for the construction of a power plant, which is an essential, strategic facility, reaches the National Security Council, is examined there, and without specifying cases of companies or projects or countries, there have been cases where projects have been stopped in the past."

It added that UBS would have “no other realistic option” but to leave Switzerland if the proposals were not watered down.

Between Nov. 8 and 9, Venezuela experienced an event unlikely to go unnoticed in the history of Latin American political organizations. During those two days, 145,465 neighborhood assemblies were held, with an average of 20 participants each. The result was that more than 3 million people elected Comprehensive Bolivarian Grassroots Committees (CBBI), which now serve as the primary structure of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Experts say Observations Group’s connections to the Base and Rinaldo Nazzaro present ‘urgent danger’

In the underworld of accelerationist neo-Nazis, where talk of attacks against western governments are commonplace, the spread of illegal weapons manuals and tradecraft on drone warfare are proliferating. Experts say, in some cases, that classes are being taught online with the input of leadership from proscribed terrorist groups with links to Russian intelligence.

Authorities have been warning, on both sides of the Atlantic, about the accessibility of drone technologies and military veterans on the far right with the know-how to use them, presenting a grave national security threat.

“Offering military-style training materials, including drone tradecraft, to the extreme right indicates that this is for prepping purposes,” said Joshua Fisher-Birch, a terrorism analyst with close to a decade of experience tracking militant movements. “[To] improve the capacity of extremist networks to commit violence, or to encourage acts of violence specifically.”
