In a post on X, Greene said that “a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world”, without referring to Trump by name, adding it was “the man I supported and helped get elected”.

Hi all :)

I need to replace my Xiaomi Mi 10t Lite 5g, so my wife has agreed to buy me a replacement for Christmas. I'm clueless when it comes to phone chipsets though, so I need some help.

I posted a similar request last year for my wife, and we're in pretty much the same boat now, so I've quoted the relevant part of that post below. The main differences are, she went for a Motorola Moto G85, but I can't stand the wraparound screen, and if possible, I'd like to get a phone with usb 3 that can potentially act as a desktop replacement and connect to AR glasses, but the last part isn't important.

The main things she needs are, decent battery life, an SD card, NFC, and more than 64GB of internal storage. If the OS can be changed in the future to get security updates, that would be a bonus. Given the direction that they seem to be going, with collecting data and locking down the bootloader, I'd prefer to move away from Xiaomi if possible.

The catch is though, we're on a small budget. Thanks to Christmas, we've only got around £200 to £250 to spend. If there's a significant upgrade, we can go to about £300, but that's a stretch.

I did look at the Poco M6 Pro, the Samsung A55, and the Tecno Spark 20 Pro, which seems to be ridiculously cheap, but don't know if they're still considered decent.

Thanks :)

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot this bit. Pixels are no good for me because of the lack of SD card support. I'm regularly in places with no internet connection, so keep my media on my SD card.

Hi! I wanted to share a project I've been working on that lets you set up a huge variety of applications really quickly and painlessly. For example, instead of setting up and configuring a large docker compose for a complicated application like Immich, this playbook lets you simply write:

immich_enabled: true

And it will orchestrate all the containers, networks, directories, etc for you with reasonable defaults. All of which can be overwritten, for example to enable extra features like hardware acceleration:

immich_hardware_acceleration: "-cuda"

Or to automatically get a letsencrypt cert and expose the application on a subdomain to the outside world:

immich_available_externally: true

Included in the playbook is a ton of complicated applications, like Paperless, Meelo, TTRSS, Dawarich, as well as common self-hosted apps like Jellyfin, Home Assistant, Syncthing, Navidrome, Grafana, and a whole lot more (totaling 116 right now!).

It also comes with scripts and tests to help add your own applications (ansible roles) and ensure they work properly

I've been using this project myself for awhile, including to assist with moving from one homelab computer to another (point the playbook to the new address, run it to install everything, and restore a backup from the previous computer for data), and I hope it can help someone else build up their homelab without sinking too much time into setting things up

Here's the repository: https://github.com/Dylancyclone/ansible-homelab-orchestration

And the documentation (that I'm really proud of :D): https://dylancyclone.github.io/ansible-homelab-orchestration/

Thousands of Chicago-area residents have undergone training in how to respond quickly to ICE raids as part of Rapid Response teams. These people are out on the street, blowing whistles and honking horns when they see ICE and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents, and warning those in danger to seek cover. Rapid Responders also take regular shifts walking children to school so that their parents do not have to risk an ICE abduction at the drop-off site. Responders stand at nearby school corners to reassure school children that someone is there to protect them, to document what ICE does, and to seek help, if necessary.

The now numerous Rapid Response group networks in both the city of Chicago and the surrounding suburbs operate mostly with the guidance of ICIRR. The immigrant rights coalition notifies groups and individuals in its “Eyes on ICE” text chain, and conducts Zoom training sessions for those seeking to become Rapid Responders in their neighborhoods. The ICIRR hotline offers help in 13 languages — including Spanish, Polish, and Urdu.

All Kagi Search users can now flag low-quality AI content (“AI slop”) in web, image, and video search results. We will verify these reports using our own signals. If a domain primarily publishes AI-generated content, we will downrank it in Kagi Search and mark it as AI slop. If a page is AI-generated but the domain is mixed (not mostly AI), we will flag the page as AI-generated but will not downrank it.

For media results, images and videos confirmed as AI-generated, they will be labelled as such and automatically downranked on the results page. Users can also choose to filter out AI-generated media entirely.

Three Palestinian teenagers released in a recent prisoner exchange were abducted by Israeli soldiers while seeking aid and tortured in custody, a new report has revealed.

In interviews conducted by the NGO Defense for Children Palestine (DCIP), Mohammad Nael Khamis al-Zoghbi, 17, Faris Ibrahim Faris Abu Jabal, 16, and Mahmoud Hani Mohammad al-Majayda, 17, described how they were abducted by Israeli forces near aid distribution points and transferred to the notorious Sde Teiman detention camp in southern Israel.

They said they endured torture, beatings and starvation in Israeli custody. The trauma has left them unable to sleep, and they are plagued by night terrors and bed wetting.

One of the boys said he felt his detention had "stripped away his childhood".

Jabal, who was abducted along with his father while seeking aid near the Morag Corridor on 11 September, recalled being so badly beaten during his interrogation that his forehead “split open and required stitches”.

China is increasingly dictating the course of Russia's policy and it could push Moscow to end the war in Ukraine, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna (Eesti 200).

Tsahkna was on an official visit to China last week, the first visit by an Estonian foreign minister in 10 years.

"My main task was to tell the Chinese foreign minister that Russia poses an existential threat to Europe and to Estonia. I reminded him that without China, Russia would not be able to carry out such aggression against Ukraine. The numbers show this is true, and it must be said plainly who holds economic and political control over Russia. If China wants to have good relations with Estonia, these issues must be addressed," Tsahkna [said].

As usual, any dev contributions appreciated as I am not actually a java/mobile dev, so my progress is significantly slower than those who do this on the daily.

Big thanks to all the folks who have been contributing. We have a new icon designed but I could use some help if anyone wants to do a PR to implement it.

France, U.K. and Germany have growing budget deficits and debt, while the former crisis hot spots in the south look financially healthier

The European debt crisis of the early 2010s created an image of a continent cleaved in two: The fiscally responsible core countries led by Germany versus the spendthrift southern periphery of Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain—disdainfully dubbed PIGS.

Nowadays, there has been a role reversal. Europe’s three biggest economies are stuck in a cycle of weak growth, leading to widening budget deficits. France is the epicenter of this shift and remains mired in a budget and political crisis, while the U.K. is weighing tax rises to try to narrow the gap and avoid spooking markets. Famously frugal Germany and the Netherlands are taking on debt, albeit from lower levels.

Does this or has this existed?

A site where users can post a bounty for a bug fix on something and others can contribute. If the bug is fixed, an arbitrator determines if the solution meets all of the parameters and rewards the programmer with the pooled funds.

Beyond bug fixes, it could be used to fund entire applications or even specific feature requests.

Companies or software packages could have their own official pages, with separate sections for bug fixes, feature requests, or even future versions.

Contributors can pledge an amount with a lifespan attached. If the bug or feature isn't materialized within that window it refunds their account. Otherwise the money is held in escrow until paid out.

Yesterday, there was a bot that made a ton of posts in different communities. The mods of ttrrpg.network banned that user, and about 20 other people were also banned from several communities each on ttrpg.network (including me) with the reason given "Account used to boost spambot account" (for me it was all the communities on that server that I was subscribed to, but I wasn't actually banned from the instance):

The mods also made a pinned post in that sub (it's unpinned now) where they explain their reasoning some more:

Just got done investigating a spambot we had earlier, and it looks like they used a lot of compromised accounts on other instances to give their post an initial upvote boost. If you don’t already, please remember to use a good strong password.

I do remember interacting with at least one post from that bot, to me it looked fairly innocuous until I looked at the sheer volume of posts they made since the account was created. I assume that I'd notice if my account was hijacked, especially while I was still actively browsing lemmy, and my password is certainly not easily to bruteforce or guess. I also took a look at the profiles of the other users who were banned, there were quite a few who were still posting or commenting after they were banned from rpgmemes - none of those profiles looked suspicious to me, and many of the ones who didn't post or comment anything since then just weren't that active in the first place.

Frankly, I don't believe that any of those banned accounts were actually hacked. It looks to me like the mods just banned everyone who interacted with that bot. I understand that spambots are a big issue that is difficult to solve, but fediverse mods and admins need to be a lot more precise with dealing with that than this - the cure can't be worse than the poison.

I did message one community mod of rpgmemes and one of the server admins about this, but neither got back to me.

edit 3 - me humming the melody https://voca.ro/1fiQl9tlBHoh I also want to stress again it wasn't a slow or chill song. It had energy very similar to I Feel For You by Chaka Khan, and the melody I'm humming was made up by what sounded like the opening piano in Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears, except in major. The singer's vocals also complimented the melody since the vocals had a similar intonation as the melody I'm humming. I only caught one or two words but I swear she says "nothing really matters" or "nothing ever matters" "nothing truly matters" or "nothing matters"

It's an 80s pop/dance/house song. There's this dancy, warm electric bass that's constantly in the background. The electric bass sounds like this (4:15 minute mark) the melody of it (the bass part) also sounded a little similar to what is in that video.

Then there's this very 80's instrument that plays in it between some lines, that's also very weird. It goes like "DU-NA-NU-NAAHH-NAAA" in quick succession. It's a sharp highish pitched synthetic/electronic sound. It sounded like something from this old game called Road Trip Adventure. It (referring to that one instrument/electronic sound) had a similar soundfont.

There's also a piano sound that's kind of low pitched. Sounded electronic/like a synth, but close to a real piano with the sound being held on to a little longer. I also remember the singer saying "yoouuuu" in a high pitched way.

The song is very energetic and sounds like something you'd hear at a party or disco. It also sounded a little romantic. I heard it in a shop earlier and now it's driving me mad lol. ChatGPT keeps saying it's a 90s Madonna song, but that's not it. It is a very euphoric and nostalgic sounding song even though I've never heard it before. It almost sounds like she's celebrating in the song.

The vibe/emotion/energy it gave is most similar to I Feel For You by Chaka Kahn, especially the later part. It was also fast-ish.

== edit ==

The song MAY have had this weird "get, get get down!" line in it, or something that sounded similar to that (I was talking to someone in the shop so my memory of it is muffled) but I am not 100% certain.

The song wasn't slow and sounded heavenly.

== edit 2 ==

I can't really whistle, but the part of the melody I remember most went like this https://voca.ro/17IhmkCs2oHu there was this piano that sounded a bit synth that made up much of that melody. There was also an electric bass sound. The melody was slightly slower than my whistled version of it. The piano sounded similar to the piano in Head over Heels by Tears for Fears except it sounded like the major version of it if that makes sense?

What it isn't

  • Madonna - Nothing Really Matters

  • Missing You by Diana Ross

  • How Can I Ease the Pain by Lisa Fischer

  • Gotta Tell You by Samantha Mumba

  • Electric Feel by MGMT

  • Don’t Walk Away by Jade

  • Tell Me by Groove Theory

  • Right Here by SWV

  • Queen Bohemian Rhapsody

  • Sinead O’Connor Nothing compares to you

  • What Have You Done For Me Lately - Janet Jackson

  • Platinum Blonde’s “It Doesn’t Really Matter”

  • Janet Jackson - Doesn’t Really Matter

  • nothing really matters by David Guetta

  • Since You’ve Gone” – Belinda Carlisle (1986)

  • Basia - New Day For You

  • Ain’t Nobody by Rufus and Chaka Khan

  • PROM - Nothing Really Matters Anymore

  • D-Mob feat. Cathy Dennis - That's The Way Of The World

It wasn't a slow or chill song, it was a song you'd hear at some dance party.
