Japanese automaker Mazda has teamed up with its joint venture with China's Changan to pool carbon credits and help avoid carbon emissions fines, an EU document showed.

EU's fines, which carmakers have said could total up to 15 billion euros ($17.5 billion) for the industry, were initially envisaged to apply to 2025 carbon emissions levels.

However, in March, the European Commission bowed to pressure from car manufacturers and allowed compliance based on their average emissions over 2025-2027.

Hello, everyone,

I've had my current Samsung Galaxy running Android for about two or three years now. It was an older model then. I am about ready to get a new phone; mine has been put through the ringer.

I was interested in Graphene or Divest, or some of these other open source phone OS. but I dont know much about what they have and what they can do. How reliable are they? Will the manufacturer or the carrier fuck me over? Which phone models are compatible and how expensive are they?

I'm a contractor; not only do I NEED a reliable phone, but I also need a phone that can run certain apps. I've tooled around with game emulation and modding since the DS flashcart days, and I have even recently had Switch accounts banned.

I'm sorry if there was a README but I haven't been able to find any information as to if this was reliable enough to become my primary telephone.

In the last week or so, 10 out of the 25 most popular cameos using my face are various fetishes, including one where I'm a centaur-woman pregnant with octoplets. It's not just me, either. I've seen this kind of content made with cameos of other women: female creators, another woman tech reporter, and a female employee of a prominent venture-capital firm.

**I don't get why anyone is surprised **

Critics say scientists ‘held hostage’ by RFK Jr as changes mean vaccine development and guidance in peril

The staff supporting the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) were let go earlier this month in a sweeping round of layoffs that gutted entire departments of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Most of the committee’s working groups, which pore over data and help set the agendas, haven’t met for months, and there was little communication from the staff even before they received reduction in force (RIF) notices during the US government shutdown.

The ACIP meeting planned for 22-23 October has been indefinitely postponed.

The changes mean the US government may not make routine vaccine recommendations for more than half of children in 2026, and they will likely affect the development and recommendation of new vaccines in the pipeline.

We need journalism.

Journalism requires enormous resources. It's hard to do it on your own. You need a newsroom. Not all for-profit newspapers are bad. Even the corporate-owned Financial Times publishes good journalism:

https://www.ft.com/content/8c6041ff-a223-43e9-9e45-53c3f7cf47f7

But the issue with for-profit news organizations is corporate influence. Look at Rupert Murdoch. He translates his influence into personal power. The Prime Ministers of Australia publically said they are afraid of him.

We need more non-profit quality journalism.

For-profit media can be bought. You don't want Billionaire thugs owning the media. That's what happening in many countries. Look at India. Billionaire Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani are purchasing newspaper and removing good journalism critical of Narendra Modi.

Look at Hungary.

Hell, just look at what happened in Israel. Even if you hate Israel, you should pay attention to Israeli politics. People often forget how Benjamin Netanyahu became the longest serving leader in Israeli history.

It was because of billionaires helping him.

Israel has much stricter laws on individuals donating to political campaigns, so Sheldon Adelson got around that in 2007 by founding a free, giveaway newspaper in Israel — Israel Hayom — whose sole purpose is to back Netanyahu, attack his enemies in politics and the media, and enforce a far-right political agenda to prevent any Israeli territorial compromise on the West Bank

Graphically attractive, Israel Hayom is now the biggest-circulation daily in Israel. Precisely because it is free, it is putting a heavy strain on competitors, like Yediot and Haaretz, which both charge and are not pro-Netanyahu.

Adelson then bought the most important newspaper of the religious-nationalist right in Israel, Makor Rishon, long considered the main backer of Netanyahu’s biggest right-wing rival

Last November at a conference of the Israel American Council, a lobbying group Adelson has funded, he joked in a public discussion with a wealthy Israeli: “Why don’t you and I go after The New York Times?”

Told it was family owned, Adelson quipped, “There is only one way to fight it: money.”

We need media that can't be sold. And we need many of them. And we need them to be well-funded.

You don't want to donate money to 1 guy alone on Substack. Perhaps he is well-meaning. But ideally, you want a newsroom. An actual organization with a track record of doing powerful work.

So here is a list of non-profit news organizations.

Please support them. Even $1 a month is great. Complaining about corporate power on Lemmy is easy but it doesn't achieve much.

Thank you
