India's aviation regulator has ordered all Boeing 787s being operated by local carriers to be inspected after an Air India crash killed 270 people this week, the aviation minister said on Saturday, adding the authorities were investigating all possible causes.

The aviation regulator on Friday ordered Air India to conduct additional maintenance checks on its Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft equipped with GEnx engines, including assessments of certain take-off parameters, electronic engine control tests and engine fuel-related checks.

"We have also given the order to do the extended surveillance of the 787 planes. There are 34 in our Indian fleet," aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu told a media briefing in New Delhi.

"Eight have already been inspected and with immediate urgency, all of them are going to be done."

Google says a new AI tool on its search engine will rejuvenate the internet. Others predict an apocalypse for websites. One thing is clear: the current chapter of online history is careening towards its end. Welcome to the "machine web".

The web is built on a simple bargain – websites let search engines like Google slurp up their content, free of charge, and Google Search sends people to websites in exchange, where they buy things and look at adverts. That's how most sites make money.

An estimated 68% of internet activity starts on search engines and about 90% of searches happen on Google. If the internet is a garden, Google is the Sun that lets the flowers grow.

This arrangement held strong for decades, but a seemingly minor change has some convinced that the system is crumbling. You'll soon see a new AI tool on Google Search. You may find it very useful. But if critics' predictions come true, it will also have seismic consequences for the internet. They paint a picture where quality information could grow scarcer online and large numbers of people might lose their jobs. Optimists say instead this could improve the web's business model and expand opportunities to find great content. But, for better or worse, your digital experiences may never be the same again.

On 20 May 2025, Google's chief executive Sundar Pichai walked on stage at the company's annual developer conference. It's been a year since the launch of AI Overviews, the AI-generated responses you've probably seen at the top of Google Search results. Now, Pichai said, Google is going further. "For those who want an end-to-end AI Search experience, we are introducing an all-new AI Mode," he said. "It's a total reimagining of Search."

You might be sceptical after years of AI hype, but this, for once, is the real deal.

Police in South Carolina engaged in a not-so-hot pursuit as they chased a tractor excavator down a main highway for more than an hour at the speed an average adult walks.

The chase reached speeds of 3 mph (4.8 kph) early Sunday morning in North Charleston, police said. [...]

So I was hearing these radio people talking about first dates and they seemed to push the idea that it's almost a given that people would be drinking alcohol on first date. As if it was a courtesy.

I was surprised to find after Googling this that maybe half of people online think the same meanwhile others are fine with just getting coffee or something.

I can maybe see how coordinating to maybe meet at a bar is somehow more feasible after work and perhaps works out better during the week VS having to go somewhere during the day on weekend but I would imagine it depends on the person.

I for one don't understand how drinking makes sense where I'm at. Even I'm in a good metro area but I'd still have to go downtown to be walking to a bar. It's the US, so I still feel that no matter what, people still have to drive. Why drink if you're gonna drive?

What do you guys think? Does the date go smoother with an alcoholic drink? How have your experiences been and do you guys have a particular preference?

(Yes, I've never dated and therefore have no insight.)

Why can countries officially recognise both the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea as different political entities despite them both claiming to be the true Korea, but not the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China, instead having to choose a side?

Before going to a protest, demonstrators or observers should note that their cellphones may subject them to surveillance tactics by law enforcement. If your cellphone is on and unsecured, your location can be tracked and your unencrypted communications, such as SMS, may be intercepted. The government’s austerity measures have manifested in severe spending cuts across critical sectors, including healthcare, social benefits, government agencies, and civil society. Additionally, regressive tax increases, notably a 1.5 percentage point rise in the basic VAT rate to 25.5 percent, have further burdened the population.

Beyond the questionable economic outcomes, the social costs are becoming increasingly apparent. Projections indicate a 9.2 percent increase in poverty and a 13.6 percent rise in child poverty. After a period of decline, homelessness is once again on the rise, driven by cuts to social benefits and housing services. The government’s dismantling of social housing is also expected to escalate housing costs.

This is... A bit of a dumb question, but I am really curious

100 random people because I think due to personal beliefs/political orientation the answer would differ, maybe someone would really like the Nordic countries, some would like China/Japan for good infrastructure, some would like the US due to extreme wealth...

Also I don't mean what their favorite country is, but whether what their favorite country "should be" given their beliefs

Also, which shows were rare: meaning, you looked out for them and felt lucky when you caught them but that you didnt often get to see?

I honestly can't remember what I used to watch Sat mornings but I do know I was always looking out to catch Kirby Right Back at Ya which was on pretty rarely and sporadically. Was always low-key disappointed when it wasnt on then

Nowadays, I like things like Grim and Evil and Superjail! Wish I could find Duck Dodgers tho

So I recently moved most of my docker storage to a second hard drive, called "storage." After a system restart, docker is creating a folder called "storage," forcing the physical drive to be renamed "storage1." How do I prevent this from happening?

I am using Xubuntu.

Edit: As suggested, it was indeed my system spinning up Docker before mounting the internal disk. The solution (should work on most Unix-like systems) was to manually add a line to /etc/fstab as follows: First get the UUID for the problem drive

~$ sudo blkid -s UUID

The output will show your drives and the UUID of each. Then edit the following file:

~$ sudo mousepad /etc/fstab #{or use your choice of editor, i.e. nano}

Add the following line:

/dev/disk/by-uuid/{UUID number copied from blkid output} /destination/of/your/drive ext4 defaults 0 0

Of course replace {UUID number copied from blkid output} and /destination/of/your/drive and set defaults & parameters as needed. These worked for me.

Restart the system and the drive should be forced to mount before docker starts. This seems to be a known issue with certain docker setups.
