This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

There. Now you've seen the comments.
Those comments are weirdly hostile, and do deserve removal and a temp ban.
However, based on your own comments being hostile and overly invested, I would have removed YOURS as well. Add in you removing the perfectly civil top comment (which, despite you restoring just now, you haven't included in the screen shot), the obfuscating of the mod logs in the initial removal, and you coming here to give a ruling on your own behaviour (you cannot be impartial on that), I cannot say you're in the right here.
BPR.
Yeah... being dismissive of a troll who is antagonistic is not the same as being an antagonistic troll. I also just forgot to add the original comment in the screenshot. Also your comment doesn't really make sense.
This is just a demonstration of a misunderstanding of Lemmy moderation. When you ban a user, you are given the option to remove the comments from that thread. It's a shortcut for mods so we don't have to individually remove each comment made if the user is violating the rules in the community in every comment. As the above user was.
I'm sorry but your comment doesn't have any logic that I can follow to it. You start this off by saying that the comments were deserving of removal but then you immediately seem to start claiming that I'm deliberately trying to hide what actually happened. If I wanted to hide what happened then why did I restore all those comments? Why did I post the screenshots? Why do you agree with the removal? Moreover, no. I did not restore "just now". I restored about an hour ago when I restored everything else. It just was not removed again alongside everything else because that single comment was just antagonistic, and not actively uncivil.
You might want to read the sidebar.
If you think it's BPR, then that's your right. But I personally disagree and don't understand your thought process in getting to that point.
At any rate, I've spent enough of my time on the above troll. He has successfully wasted my time on that other post just like he's doing here now. He doesn't get another second.
They were not antagonistic until AFTER your dismissive, antagonistic comment. The most antagonistic part of that initial comment is a direct response to you saying the same thing. Heck, you responded to his "sorry" with "not sorry", just to be a jerk. You were the first one to be uncivil.
You're right, I am not a mod, and have no idea how mod tools work. But based on how the comments of mine that were removed were visible in the mod logs, I had assumed you did something to hide them. I was wrong. My mistake.
There were three comments you had removed at the time I made my first ruling. 2 and 3 deserved removal. 1 did not. 2 and 3 were included in your screenshot. 1 had been left out. You definitely cherry-picked that thread.
When I said "just now", I was referring to something that happened within the hour I was writing, and which happened after the last time I spoken on the subject. Please don't get stuck on a detail that minute. It's not worth it.
You're fully allowed to respond, and to offer your own defence. My issue is where you say "YDI." You're the potential PTB. You're innately biased in favour of yourself. The rest of your comment is fine, but that rings an alarm bell of bad faith to me.
Exactly. I responded with the same energy i got, and was labeled uncivil. It's laughable.
But i guess it's a net win. New instance to block, and a pile of names i won't be seeing anymore after this either. So, after all is said and done, my lemmy experience improved!
Seems pretty uncivil, at the very least unnecessary to get your point across.
