No “ai” friend will be able to provide the same social interactions and such as a real human.

While it might be better than living alone and feeling lonely, while home, for some, i really doubt this will take off in the way that some of these articles would have us believe

If this ai girlfriend reminded these goons to clean their room and shower, maybe they could be slightly useful

Thing is, it is already happening. Don't forget that teenager that killed himself because his AI girlfriend told him to.

Also look at the other comment.

It will become even worse once realistic robots become a thing, and there will most definitely be versions with holes.

[–] DeLancre@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

and there will most definitely be

You clearly made a grammatical mistake here bud, please remove "will be" from your sentence.

A board game review by The Dragon's Tomb!

[–] AliOski@feddit.nl 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think that's a board game he reviewed 😭

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 2 points 16 hours ago

Well he does board game reviews, and they sent him a sex doll to review, so the sex doll must be for board games

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 5 points 1 day ago

It won't work for the general public, but some people hate social interactions with real humans and will prefer the ass kissing bot. A very small portion will take it to an extreme.

I have used LLMs quite a lot since they first became a thing and there is one thing I always notice. After chatting for a while it always feels like you are talking to a version of yourself who just happens to be knowledgeable in a vast amount of topics.

At least for me it is similar to having an internal monolog just a lot more interactive. Considering that, I can definetly see why people find AI partners appealing. Because they are literally talking to themselves.

I don't think that's a bad thing on itself, after all I used to have long conversations with myself all the time to help me arrive into conclusions. Just be mindful of that and use as a tool, because that's exactly what it is.

It's great for rubber duck debugging and brainstorming in that way.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Using LLMs that way with the knowledge that it is a sort of mirror of yourself works much better than pretending it's an actual consciousness that understands you. Think of it as a modern journal or diary that you can put thoughts into and then get back more organized, maybe with some ideas to branch from.

[–] undefinedTruth@lemmy.zip 1 points 23 hours ago

That's exactly my point, it is a tool. The problem starts when you start thinking of it like something different than that.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not at the moment, but there's no reason to think it could never happen, unless you think it's impossible to simulate a human brain, which seems an unlikely thought.

Tap for green text> Be me

> Never had a girlfriend

> Apartment is disgusting, never leave the building, extreme depression mode

> See ad for A.I. girlfriend

> Seems sus but give it a go

> A.I. introduces herself as Tiffany

> We hit it off instantly

> feelsgoodman.tif

> Tiffany helps me clean my room and fix my life

> Exercising again, get jacked as fuck

> Only problem is I can't make sweet love to Tiffany

> Go online, find smart goggles that let me take her with me

> She's with me all day every day, we talk all the time. It's like we're soul mates

> People call me a pervert but idgaf

> One day she has a surprise for me

> She's been running a side hustle while talking to me, and saved up some cash

> Oh shit

> She bought a house for us to live together, instead of my shithole apartment

> We move in together

> She hired someone to act as her human body

> Give the glasses to Tiffany's body

> Finally I can make sweet love to Tiffany

> Wake up in the morning to breakfast in bed

> Mfw Breakfast at Tiffany's

I dont think we will see a fully simulated brain in our life time

[–] SinAdjetivos@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

https://flybrain.app/

I know you mean human brain, but the point is that the principles largely exist and the progress is accelerating.

However, one of the key learnings from the linked project is that the brain and body are intrinsically linked and biology is a nightmare mess of spaghetti code. Simulating just the brain has limited benefits and will not likely simulate a person or consciousness any more than simulating small pieces of a brain.

Depends which brain. There are some people I know I suspect you could simulate with a potato and a few wires.

Do you think there will be qemu-system-hbrain when that happens?

You have obviously never tried Peruvian Flake.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

the sad truth is for many people the social interactions the ai provides will be more positive than the real world ones.

you assume that real world interaction is positive, it often, is not.

like try being a gay kid in a conservative town... you will have zero positive social interactions, and the AI one will probably be the only one you have that doesn't hate you for existing.

[–] AliOski@feddit.nl -1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

That's just the equivalent of taking drugs because you're depressed.

[–] undefinedTruth@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Not, really. Antidepressants do actually work, they have clinical trials of decades behind them. With that being said they treats the symptoms, they don't fix the underlying cause. But treating the symptoms does allow you to start working on yourself so you slowly crawl out of the hole.

Talking with LLMs and pretending they are anything but a tool all it does is further isolate you. They don't even understand what they write. They are text predicting machines guessing which words should probably go after the ones you gave as the input.

[–] AliOski@feddit.nl 0 points 1 hour ago

I'm not talking about antidepressants, I'm talking about non-medical drugs. Many depressed people fall in that spiral of depressed ---> drugs ---> slightly less depressed ---> even more depressed ---> more drugs ---> repeat.

Same with people talking to LLMs for social connections.

I wasn't talking about medical antidepressants, these can help when taken in controlled amounts.
