Headline conveniently phrased to attract clicks from certain segment of internet users.
that's usually the goal of a headline
Futurism's are particularly egregious. It exists to get clicks, and I mean in a way that clearly none of its writers give a single shit.
This headline and story in particular are okay enough, but in general, Futurism will take scraps and turn it into "[x person/business/industry our readerbase doesn't like] is literally shitting its pants and DYING".
Every headline, really...
I'm just part of that group recognizing when I'm being manipulated.
Chat, is it good when a stock is down 28% YTD?
I think people are tired of these headlines because we've seen the same thing for many companies, without lasting consequences. It's even worse for elon musk related stocks, because of how much manipulation those ones go through.
I don't have a source, so take it with a grain of salt, but I vaguely remember a discussion that one of his companies couldn't remove him because the stock was artificially inflated by his presence. It might have been tesla
There is another problem which keeps stocks like Tesla afloat when it really should have tanked a long time ago: Index funds based on indexes like S&P 500 etc., where investors are automatically buying Tesla stock when buying into the fund, which stabilizes the stock in question. Musk knows this and that was the exact reason why he tried to get indexes to bend the rules of inclusion for spaceX to be included in indexes earlier than usual. The grave consequences are people investing in index funds are directly milked. Pension funds often include indexes, so what Musk is doing there is in effect trying to steal from people who did not actively invest in SpaceX.
Not sure it quite qualifies as a free fall yet, we can all hope though.
