Cuz ya know, if there's one thing Singapore is touchy about considering its long historical ties with the Middle East, it's Palestine and the fate of Jews and Arabs there.

Honestly, what do they care? Don't they have other things to worry about on the other side of the planet?

They care about enforcing censorship and keeping a lid on "politics" disrupting "social harmony". Once again Palestine is an issue that unearths the deeper fractures and contradictions in a society.

Also, guess which middle eastern country regularly sends their officers to train the Singaporean military? Hint: it's not Palestine

Also known as punishing people who talk back to authority.

They have put in proper rule of law, so not like ccp. And although it's defacto single party, it's not de jure. But yeah, freedom of expression-wise it's below average.

Rule of law is not so different from corruption in Singapore which literally just a tax haven. It goes from "I know a guy who'll take 100k to fix this" to "I know a guy who will incorporate a shell company for 100k to fix this". All it does it makes corruption exclusive to mega rich.

Rule of law just means rule of law. It doesn't mean everyone gets same level of power or that it's a fair system. It just minimizes uncertainty and human arbitraryness.

Well, theres this really insane military power that they're close trading partners with that really cares about their little ethnostate vassal.

Don’t they have other things to worry about on the other side of the planet?

Palestine-Singapore is not that far away compared to, say, Palestine-USA.

[–] Tiral@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

USA gives zero shits about Singapore. They try to insert themselves into a narrative to try to feel relevant.

Dictatorships will have their obsessions.
