He has certainly revealed himself to be a shitty person, but Shape of You is actually a pretty good concept for a song. It's essentially a song about body acceptance created in an era where people (especially women) face constant, coercive pressure to meet impossible, idealized beauty standards. That's why it was such a popular song. I know a lot of people who struggle with that topic, and the song really resonated with them.

It's not like he even wrote the song, either. Pop stars almost never write their own music, and Shape of You is no exception.

Body acceptance? I've never heard that. I'm looking at the lyrics right now and all I see is casual sex.

Also, he's listed first in the songwriting credits. Pretty sure he does write his own songs.
