A shame it's taken this long to get his "music" off the airwaves. It should have happened years ago.
World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

I know exactly one 2012 song from Macklemore and one 2017 song from Ed Sheeran. And that is the extent of my expertise on their biographies.
I feel a tiny sorry for Ed (not that a guy who has an estimated £400 million net worth needs my sympathy), but he's just some ~~poor~~ rich schlub who's been planning to tour around a bit, play some uncontroversial songs, earn another hundred million, mind his own business and then... kapow!... he's front and centre in a fight that's he's clearly ill-equiped to even interact with.
"Whuh? I just wanted to play some bland music and earn enough money to buy myself a ginger island. What the flip is going on?"
kapow!.. he’s front and centre in a fight that’s he’s clearly ill-equiped to even interact with.
You say that like artists - especially Irish artists - haven't been front and center on agitating against the Palestinian Genocide for years now.
He organized tour full of pro-Palestinian activists, ffs. Mackelmore isn't some new figure, either. Jumping on popular leftist initiatives is kinda his brand.
If Sheeren had formed a band with Greenpeace, would he be blindsided when they started talking about the environment?
Like, I'm half inclined to give him some credit just for putting this thing together. Better to have it implode on you than to never tour at all.
Did Ed suicide bomb his career in the name of Palestine? Maybe
Maybe I'm reading either comment wrong, but I think the person you're replying to was being ironic. Perhaps.
Ah, I've seen this take posted a few times sincerely.
Everything I've ever learned about Ed Sheeran has been against my will.
I couldn't name a single song by this guy.
He did that one banger in Game of Thrones but I don't know if it had a name. It was new.
You’d recognize them if you heard them. They were ubiquitous on the radio 5-10 years ago
That sounds like about the length of time I haven't listened to the radio because I've had a personal device that can either hold or steam music from...
They sounded AI-generated before AI music was a thing.
There's that Pokemon song
I can name exactly one song, and one song only by the dude; and I never actually listened to the song. (Shape of You).
I'm old but Ed Sheeran has been around long enough and is big enough for at least one of his songs to float into the pop culture reflecting pool so I'd at least recognize a chorus or a lyric or two, but nothing seems to have stuck. Again, I'm old and don't listen to new music anymore. I find musical nuggets in the past now, before I was born. Louis Prima rocks! Will Ed's music stand the test of time?
I have a burning hatred for "pop" so I'm very biased on this, but, no. All his songs I've been exposed to (and right now I can only think of "shape of you", after looking for track names) are, in my opinion, forgettable at best.
"removed from the airways" at one radio station in Ireland
better than none, hopefully the first of many
They were never included in my personal library and they never will.
Kraft said in a statement on Instagram: “I have dedicated much of my life to building bridges between all people. I believe deeply that all lives are worth protecting.
That's like saying 'all lives matter' in response to the Black Lives Matter movement; it's disrespectful of the point being made.
Building bridges between the fascists and everyone else, so the fascists can do their thing
Good, Macklemore makes better music anyway
This is the way.
