In an un-fucking-believable move, the Americans stopped sharing intelligence and disabled Starlink’s military services, rendering Ukraine completely defenseless against Russian ballistic missiles just prior to a major attack.

This coming shortly after the US essentially negated its economic sanctions on Russian diesel and once again pressured Kyiv to unilaterally cease its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, even as Russia ramps up their own attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Trump is now publically aiding the Russians in their aggression against Ukraine and Europe

[–] Darkmoon_AU@lemmy.zip 9 points 17 hours ago

I've been dumbfounded at the US since the start of the year but I think this marks the moment where they are openly on Russia's side against the West. Dangerous times. I'm rather worried at where this is going.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 141 points 1 day ago (4 children)

No, that’s a totally believable move. The American government are terrotists that have the American people held hostage. They will now do whatever they want regardless- and oftentimes to spite what the American people want.

And no one is doing shit about it.

Thank you for not seeing an entire nation as the worst of their parts. I'm trapped in the basement, but I'm trying the best I can. Many people far better than I are doing the same.

If the flame of love & peace dies, all is lost.

Blaming all the people in a nation on the acts of a runaway government is ignorance on display. Just like how all of the Russian citizens don’t support Putin, just like all of Germany didn’t support hitler.

People nowadays seem to have very little time for nuanced thought, and it’s just easier to all-or-nothing a situation because thinking can be hard sometimes.

I’m with ya.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Bro, every time I try to mention nuance on the internet, I'm immediately the bad guy.

Like I'm autistic as fuck, so I can be pretty rigid in the way I think, so I get, like, why people can be that way.

But like on the internet its like half of everyone is just borderline personality about everything. Like it's fun to split people or some shit. Which hurts me to say, because BPD is... complex shit itself.

[–] brem@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

High highs become the lowest of lows. Bpd ain't no joke. One day, you'll wake up after dreaming about pulling glass shards from your feet and just suddenly be too tired to ramp up. It's not a great feeling, but it's much easier maybe. Then you just use whatever energy you have left to try. Because you have to. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it isn't. You won't have those soaring moments of clarity and hope, or the valley of despair. It'll just be questions and trying, so learn how to remember or make something that reminds you that you once had the other sides.

The middle isn't pretty, but it works. Or not. I recommend occasionally feeding the beast when you reach the middle.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Same. And while my ASD can also make me pretty rigid, I also know that the world we live in exists almost entirely within the grey area that lies between the polarizing black and white that everyone cannot see past.

And what bothers me the most about it is how rapidly it seems to be getting worse.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I had high hopes that nuance would be easier to maintain on Lemmy for years. But... no.

[–] Cheebus@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If I was a secret world ruling oligarch i’d want nations against each other

otherwise they might notice me and all my bunkers

[–] brem@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just wait 'till they dash down into their holes like the vermin that they are, only to find out many of us bribed the staff not to tell them about the toilets we upperdecked and the 200000000000 pillows we be-farted and left mints upon.

Imagine this if you will:

An entire society of elites, forced underground only to find out the Virtual Reality they invested in can't be seen due to permanent pink eye.

A mole-like parasitic society haunted by ghosts stolen, trained upon the very things that hated them the most.

An artificial intelligence that would continue to exist because they couldn't make new sequels to GTA without it.

A ghost.

All of this, beloved readers...would grow to haunt them like screams in the darkness.

[–] brem@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (17 children)

I have empathy, but I'm not perfect. I've said fuck Ruzzia & fuck Israel myself. It's hard not to, when you see what's happening...but we only see what they want us to see these days, in many ways. They only allow us to feel what we do because it plays into some sick narrative .. I've seen entire countries, cultures & religions blamed for injustices & atrocities, and now this burden has come back to haunt those who used it as a weapon. The people are simply hostages in an agenda that would drive you insane if you knew the truth of.

American conservatives hate Ukraine because their media has trained them to do so.

American conservatives have a greater affinity for Russian style domestic and foreign policy than they do with liberal democracy.

This is what American conservatives want. They want conservative chauvinism to bowl over the "leftist, globalist" world order with violence and abuse.

[–] EtruDUR@thelemmy.club 16 points 1 day ago

Most American Conservatives have no idea what Russian style policy is, or what life, even for “middle class” Russians is like.

They are passive, lazy and infantile people that just go along with whatever their peers and their media diet (Fox News, Talk Radio, Facebook, and now mass media) spoon feeds them.

The core of these people were always either racist or greedy or tolerant of racists for some other idiotic or bigoted reason.

This is what happens when you have a society of overly “soft” and spoiled people. People that have basically never experienced hardship for 2, 3 or 4 generations.

America happens to be the most powerful and most culturally dominant country right now, but this isn’t a special thing. It is human nature and America is just ahead of the curve.

[–] MightEnlightenYou@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They did the same thing last year, Ukraine and Europe has been preparing for this happening

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Which I do feel is glossed over. Europe knew it was coming. Putin is cashing in his influence to make it one more day.

How much will it hurt Ukraine? We can only find out.

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (6 children)

2/3rds of the country endorsed this, or decided they were okay with it happening and did nothing to stop it.

And no, im not calling it Stockholm Syndrome when that's total BS made up to cover for incompetent negotiators and hostage rescue.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 12 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Yep. MAGA, non-voters, and 3rd party voters opened this door.

Yeah, trump announced he would do this many times during the election (and his first term). The american people chose this. Twice. At least there is no war in the middle east...

produced by Musk’s SpaceX but managed by the US government, was no longer working at speeds greater than 100mph.

That effectively rendered most of the drones used by Ukraine to strike behind the frontlines inoperable

Such a specific way to sabotage Ukraine. They didn't shut down access, just made it so their weapons didn't work.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

They didn’t shut down access, just made it so their weapons didn’t work.

Those are the same thing. Ukraine wasn't using it to shit post on X.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

You can't think of another way a country would need internet access other than high speed drones and shit posting?

[–] AMoralNihilist@feddit.uk 17 points 1 day ago

Even worse that they did it not just without warning, but without even a "hey we shut you off". Just, system switch cut off.

And as others have said, not even remotely surprising at this point.
