I know this is a leap, but for some reason reading this made me want to buy a domain like virus.porn and make it the most wholesome, lemmy community on the planet.

"Handling The Big Jobs, Too"

Lolol

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or girlsof in stagam, which apparently has disappeared but used to be the story of the adventures of a person called Girlsof in the magical realm of Stagram.

[–] wal_kr@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I remember that one too, but think it was actually called Slütsof In Stagrâm

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 53 minutes ago

I'm unsure if this is satire and that link should stay blue. 😅

Just leaving their bare ass out there with no ssl, smh

[–] AHorseWithNoNeigh@piefed.social 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's only one ssl. How much could it possibly cost? 4 dollars?!

[–] marduk@lemmy.today 14 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I the worst part is deciding which flavor to get

I like that the most expensive one is called "wildcard".

Sounds like it's gonna perform AMAZING feats of security some of the time and just not work at all at other times.

Kinda like the wild mage of encryption 😁

WILDCARD SECURITY

It blasts the hackers off the face of the earth with orbital lasers! killer robots sever their network connection! It's twirling a revolver on its finger while smoking three cigarettes!

And sometimes, that revolver goes off in your face, and it posts your private key on 4Chan.

They can also be gotten for free through many providers, the biggest one in self-hosting is LetsEncrypt

[–] ExperimentalGuy@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Isn't TLS/SSL something at the server level and not the domain provider level?

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You have to get a certificate from a provider which can verify you control the domain.

Once you've proved control you install the signed certificate with the secret private key on your server.

You can get certificates for free via Let's Encrypt and a bunch more CA's. It hasn't been expensive for ages, unless you want fancy corporate support.

[–] korazail@eviltoast.org 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Corporate support can be a big deal.

In a previous life, I routinely blocked anything from a free cloud host or cert provider. There was rarely a business justification for accessing a site or service hosted on DigitalOcean or signed by LetsEncrypt. Sure, get an SSL cert and host for your personal project - so I wasn't mad at the services - but it was a signal that the endpoint was not trustworthy beyond the TCP packets.

I suspect that AWS/GCP/Azure has made that much harder.

[–] urushitan@kakera.kintsugi.moe 3 points 23 hours ago

Yeah now let’s encrypt and other free cert providers are ubiquitous so it doesn’t make sense to block them. But you do need EV ssl for certain industries and markets like banking.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 3 points 1 day ago

Imma flex my EV

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

I tried securing my ass, but my browser got stuck.

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Be the change you want to see! I'll sign up straight away.

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

P1nkman, please report to the training room.

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But there's nothing here 😭

[–] xthexder@l.sw0.com 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It can be yours for only $69/year!

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 52 minutes ago (1 children)

I wonder if the same leeches hoarding it also "own" plnkman.com...

[–] xthexder@l.sw0.com 1 points 26 minutes ago

Nobody owns it, virus.porn is currently unregistered. $69 is the actual price on Namecheap.

plnkman.com (what you linked, with an L) is also available to buy

p1nkman.com is an actual page registered through Porkbun.com since 2021. Maybe this is P1nkman@lemmy.world's domain, idk.

pinkman.com however is owned by someone through DomainsByProxy.com via GoDaddy. It's been registered since 2004, and is just parked for ad revenue.

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

Sure, but i don't know how to set it up as a fediverse instance.

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This reminded me of notpron.com

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Anything but wholesome though...
