Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1633 readers
96 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

There is a recent desant of Russian trolls attacking Ukraine, with some of them even blatantly saying they support Putin and some others trying to put into doubt evidence of Russian crimes (kidnapping children etc.)

I have been banned from world by @little_cow@lemmy.world for calling one of them out. Also both of my comments, the one in the screenshot and another one where I explain to another user that he is arguing with paid Russian troll have been removed.

Accusing a user of being a paid troll account is against the rules in most instances, even if you somehow have strong evidence for it.

It's an unfalsifiable claim and is frequently used as a way to harass another user over a disagreement.

YDI.

It is enough to look at this user commenting history to substantiate the claim.

If you see a nazi, say "nazi"

If you see a Russian troll, say "Russian troll".

Like I said, its not about having evidence or not. It's a disingenuous way of harassing someone for having an opinion you disagree with.

If the opinion is a rule-breaking one, then report it. If it isn't, find a more constructive way to deal with your disagreement.

Too many people (myself included) learned to focus on the person, instead of the idea.

That leads to sophist arguments ("you're a troll"), rather than searching for the truth that lies somewhere between different viewpoints.

It's not easy to keep in mind and to find ways to stay on the subject.

very well said

not to mention if you look at the comment history and you see nazi or troll or such then just block.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No, if you see a nazi or troll call it out so that administration can remove it and keep the community healthy. Do not turn a blind eye to a fucking nazi bar.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Im sorry but im not that nice. I want to block him till the administration deals with his account and he makes an alt I have to then block.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Blocking someone is far more 'nicer' than directly and publicly shaming someone and calling them out for their bad behaviour.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 3 months ago

no im mean nice to the community.

[–] Evono@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 months ago

The issue is, you just broke rules too.

Next time.

Just report him or say something more civil. But honestly if you see a rule breaker just report him.

It's like kinda like real life you don't deal with criminals the justical system in this case mods and admins do.

Being a paid troll is one thing. If I see someone spreading pro fascist propaganda, I wouldn't call them paid, but I would absolutely call them out on promoting fascist propaganda

[–] Outwit1294@lemmy.today 1 points 4 months ago

They might be a troll but how did you jump to the paid part?

[–] Soktopraegaeawayok@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Brother, this isnt the sludge at the bottom of the internet, this is the hardened nastiness under the sludge. These people are the highschool drop outs that disappeared from everyday society. Their weight became so obese they couldn't face life and they started collecting "disability" because their weight/gluttony got so out of control.

[–] tastemyglaive@lemmy.ml -1 points 4 months ago

That's interesting, because when I say "Nazi", you say "Russian troll". Maybe you have your favorite Nazis after all?
