Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.

Philip DeFranco. I watched him for over a decade then after covid I started picking one or two stories from the video to read about and I was pretty disappointed by how often it was mispresented. After a bit its obvious its intentional by what's being left out. Even though we still had the same politics I dont want to watch someone who intentionally skews the stories by leaving out key facts. I can arrive at the right conclusion with the whole story.
thats a name i havnt heard awhile. its seems the OG youtubers that try to stay relevant , try to be political, mostly right wing, but fall very short on thier message. PPDie escape from his own controversy by fleeing to japan, (dont think people know what your doing)
which is why its so important to get anything you're hearing from multiple sources. cause someone is always going to misrepresent it for their own benefit or bias, and sometimes it may not even be willfully done or even conscious of it, but it will happen
and thats a skill people used to have, until social media destroyed peoples attention spans and desire to make any effort on anything.. now the average person hears their news from a 15 second AI clip and takes it as gospel.
Marquez Brownlee. I lost trust in his sincerity and in his personal life he's an asshole with multiple speeding offenses.
Unbox therapy. Infomercials. The whole influencer thing does not influence me.
Lewis Rossman.
I have no valid reason for this. I fundamentally agree with the guy on most things for the dozen or so vids I have seen. Right to repair etc etc.
But something about him just comes across as entitled and annoying. Like even if I knew the was right I would want to disagree with him.
I agree with 99% of everything he's said in the videos I've watched, but the whole thing with that company doing fake "open source" stuff is weird.
I love what he's doing, I love that he exists, I do have a hard time listening to him angrily agree with me for 30 minutes straight on youtube.
I used to just have him on the background talking to the camera when he was fixing a laptop. Then would listen to his random takes on stuff and then his political activism.
As much as I agree with him, I am just raged out. I can't do John Oliver, I can't do so many left-leaning ones because they clip right-wingers and I don't want to hear about how everything's getting worse ...
VSauce, all three of them. They were peak YouTube way back when, but there was this long pause in videos shortly after they built their big studio, and VSauce 1 started focusing entirely on shorts about uninteresting things and VSauce 3 stopped making videos entirely. 1 and 2 are kinda back at making videos, but their quality jumped off a cliff. Feels like they're making videos out of obligation.
MxR Mods. Two reasons for this, firstly is that I kinda stopped playing Skyrim. The other being that he started focusing almost entirely on lewd mods.
Kurtzhezacht, because their political stance became more and more apparent (billionaires will save the future).
Stephanie Sterling. I like her still, I don't share many of the complaints that other people field. But her content just didn't really evolve as my preferences did, and after years of the same complaints it felt like not a good use of my time.
She's said many times she doesn't mind dwindling view counts as long as she gets to make content on her own terms, so that's fair.
what is their content? i wonder if thats her coping. because i used to followed some youtubers, said they dont mind declining views, as a cope(they were seriously losing alot of views , and thus money and engagement because they decided to become anti-intellectuals.
The channel is called The Jimquisition, and it used to be a quite prolific channel for gaming and games criticism. She came out as non-binary and started going by Stephanie (or Jim Stephanie) several years ago, which caused harassment from a lot of online chuds. Her takes on the industry and games development are still solid, as well as her politics. It's just that she tends to focus on the same pet peeves in the same style of commentary, so I stopped watching after a few years. I actually believe it's not cope because she's been consistent in that regard, and she gets most of her income from Patreon rather than YouTube.
Mark Rober: I don't want my views converted to money that goes to the Mormon cult.
I click "Don't recommend channel" whenever I detect bullshit, like if the word "banned" is in the title. Those are never about anything that was actually banned.
Meidas Touch. Clickbait headlines and thumbnails, unrealistically optimistic takes on things. I want information, not bullshit.
LTT. Linus is a whiny out of touch git and all the good content creators have already left
