A senior Ukrainian lawmaker who put Donald Trump forward for a Nobel Peace Prize has withdrawn his nomination.

Oleksandr Merezhko, the head of Ukraine's parliamentary foreign committee, told Newsweek on Tuesday that he had "lost any sort of faith and belief" in Trump and his ability to secure a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

Merezhko said Trump had "virtually no reaction" to large-scale strikes on the Ukrainian capital in recent weeks, adding: "He has chosen the path of appeasement."

Can someone tell Pakistan there is a form to withdraw your nomination? That'd be great, thank you.

Fuck it, nothing means anything anymore. All institutions are crumbling. Give ‘em the Nobel Prize, give ‘em the Fields Medal, give ‘em the Heisman Trophy, give ‘em the Mark Twain award.

Yeah, I had the tiniest bit of faith in the Anti Defamation League, but after they called Musk's stunt fair game I realized pockets of money could even buy ethics groups. From here on out, unless a group manages to zero its profits or earnings by the end of the year, they're untrustworthy.

The ADL has been an anti-Palestinian hate group for years.

I stopped trusting humans in general. There is a good chance that anyone you meet on the street is a cryptofascist.

The Peace Prize should be given to those who give justice and that's certainly not Trump.

[–] 13igTyme@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Nor are most of the actual recipients.

Oh cmon, look at how hard Donny is trying to make a peace happen, he’s even saying mean things about Israel now. “No new wars”

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 11 points 15 hours ago

I've given up trying to understand that man's thought processes. I've decided he has none.

Because that's what old fucking people do on text or Facebook

The idea that he doesn't know how to properly use his own social media platform is honestly hilarious.

He's senile as shit. Probably thinks it's more official if he reasserts he knows his own name. Especially after calling himself "donakd".

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 15 points 19 hours ago

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

[–] kurwa@lemmy.world 10 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Wait when did he say Donakd?

Dear samus12345

Regarding your previous commentary, I would like to remark that you neglected to properly adress the gentleman whom you were replying to.

I sure hope your father shows far better attitude when writing to the world wide web. I highly recommend to ask them for advice on how to improve your formal language.

Yours Sincerely,

Lol you'll never win you piece of human garbage

Maybe if it was the Nobel Rape prize, or the Nobel Fraud prize, or the Nobel Fleece People For Everything They've Got Prize, you'd have a chance.

[–] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 8 points 17 hours ago

he is a peace of shit, that's for sure

This FUCK is unbelievable. He wants a cookie for withdrawing a nomination which should never have been made in the first place? Should we applaud?

https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainealert/the-shadow-of-1930s-appeasement-hangs-over-us-led-peace-talks/

Read this garbage, talking about appeasement. This Merezhko a fascist himself, and every accusation is a confession. What about the literal far right extremists and nazi sympathizers in Ukraine who are responsible for the maidan massacre and helped grab power and start and escalate the civil war? What a fucking farce.

It needs to become clear to everyone that you can't just demonize Putin and deify tools like Trump or also Obama. They all play geopolitics. They all only care about gaining and maintaining power. The world has gone fucking insane believing this shit.

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 222 points 1 day ago (10 children)

Why nominate his bitch ass in the first place?

[–] ieatpillowtags@lemm.ee 257 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Probably trying to flatter him into pressuring Russia.

[–] LadyButterfly@lemmy.world 50 points 23 hours ago

It's not a bad idea, he'll do anything for himself and he'd love the kudos of this

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 63 points 1 day ago

This is a good theory.

As per the article: Oleksandr Merezhko. Without knowing more about him, he does seem genuinely far from being on Russia's payroll or part of the proto-fascist elements (beyond potentially the usual accidentally being a useful idiot like many centrist liberals end up being, sadly). Seems more like an old school centrist out of his depth, but with genuine convictions for liberalism, for what it's worth.

My guess is that he either completely misestimated what Trump really is about - or maybe put forth the nomination to bait his narcissist side into doing more, with the prize serving as a carrot on a stick. Either way, he was quite wrong in hoping for Trump doing much to end the war.

that he had "lost any sort of faith and belief" in Trump and his ability to secure a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

I mean that's a great assessment, nothing to add. I'm just not sure why it took him this long.

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 18 points 19 hours ago

Read between the lines. He actually lost faith that sucking up to Trump will do anything at all.

Dildos can't win peace prize.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 29 points 22 hours ago

Really? Why? Didn't he say he was dropping bombs because it's time for peace? Why would you withdraw such a noble prize to someone so peace-loving and earnest?
