Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I'm typing this next to a shower. We need a symbol to represent everyone who is not a billionaire. Does anyone have any ideas? My last post was removed as I suggested a guillotine. So uh, don't suggest guillotines guys. We don't want to offend anyone now.

Guillotine is the only answer

My fav Mario Kart character has ALWAYS been Luigi.

[–] hahattpro@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I think Mario with his red overall is more communist than Luigi

We already have the raised fist symbol for a long time

It even has an emoji:

Removed here, on Lemmy? I'd expect it from Reddit... but here on Lemmy!?! Hey mod that did that, go get a job at Meta or something, since you can't shake their social-engineered domestication and brainwashing.

Wait til you find out that entire instances automatically filter out cuss words in people's comments.

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 2 points 3 weeks ago

And here I thought Lemmy would be better than Reddit...

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

No they [REDACTED]ing don't. No instance is that [REDACTED]ty.

[–] arsCynic@piefed.social 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't understand. The top answer is guillotine and it's also still mentioned in the original post, but now it's not being removed?

[–] sydd@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I want to clarify, I'm asking that guillotines NOT be suggested.

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Instances are governed by the law of the country the server is based in. If what is written goes against a law there then it is in everybody’s interest to correct that.

I’m not saying that’s what happened here but it is possible.

Go have a look at the mod log.

[–] arsCynic@piefed.social 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The law is not always correct. Alan Turing was coerced into suicide because he was prosecuted for homosexuality, forcing him to choose between jailtime or chemical castration.

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, the law is often very wrong, but, unfortunately, that does not stop it from being the law… nor does it shield you from punishment from the state.

Break the law = no instance Obey the law = have instance

Check out .world and where they stand under German law, for example. It is illegal to say some things under German law. Don’t like it? Run for election and try and initiate change or move country.

A guillothreene.

It's like a guillotine, but for three people.

Technically not a guillotine because a guillotine is for one person.

Put 🚫 on top of💲?

It is the information age. We do not need physical money, we have the means to track resource allocation, production, processing, and need. Money incentivizes competition instead of cooperation. As human beings living on the same planet, we all have similar goals. The rich are using their money to hoard even more money, deliberately depriving others of their basic necessities.

I don't want to be a slave or a master. I don't want to be rich. I want a life worth living, work worth doing. I want to help people.

I get that it will take much time and effort to change, but if we don't, we might all die for someone else's greed. Many people already have. Easier said than done, admittedly.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works -1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Thats very altruistic but I dont think thats possible with how humans work

[–] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not just altruism. Empathy is reasonable. Cooperation is necessary for our survival. If we give up, the rich will kill us all.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I appreciate the sentiment but I can't be that positive. If people were actually cooperating and empathetic they'd invite the homeless into their houses. I'm not even going to do that, I'm selfish.

A crushed can.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Instead of using a symbol for the majority of people, we should label the billionaires when referring to them. I suggest using this, ☢ to indicate how toxic and radioactive they are to humanity. If you really want to designate yourself from them you could use a 🚫 over a ☢ to show you are not one of them.

[–] butter_tart@piefed.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Zier@fedia.io 3 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe we merge them both and have a new symbol.

[–] FriendOfDeSoto@startrek.website 4 points 3 weeks ago

If a guillotine is not okay, how about a piece of cake? It has the French Revolution connection but looks cute and delicious.

The Marie Antoinette quote is probably apocryphal but wgaf.

A loaf of bread.

Because none of these reptiles know how much one costs, just like they have no idea what their actions will cost.

🧱

Brick by brick

Or feeding it to them, either way works.
