Way too realistic

Edit: If the site becomes unresponsive, try disabling your adblock. The site doesn't serve any actual ads. The issue is probably unintentional, but actually it does add to the realism xD

I had to disable ublock origin for it to work. hilarious

[–] Plum@lemmy.world 58 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It froze and forced me to reload the page four times.

10/10.

I was frustrated by how buggy and unresponsive this was.

Tap for spoilerThen at the end it told me that it froze on me 4 times for the lulz. 10/10 top troll.

Also LOL at Dennis saying he can't see the survey because apparently it goes to another team, but then says that he knows I took the option that I'll miss him on business days.

[–] adhdsergio@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Or the help centre question about cancellation sending you to the help centre

[–] Australis13@fedia.io 50 points 5 days ago

Oh, that is painfully accurate for some sites...

It crashes from time to time, then I have to reload the page. Firefox Android user.

I cancelled a subscription. It took a while. https://www.fundrstudio.com/games/cancel-your-subscription/#c=511-5-3

[–] JRaccoon@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Happened to me too, had to reload a couple of times. Not sure if it was intentional, but realistic anyhow xD The only thing missing is random loading times between each step.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

And a giant one click resubscribe button at the very end

[–] Uranium_Green@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 days ago

Same but I think it's intentional as it says we have saved your progress and time at the top, after refreshing

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 4 points 5 days ago

Might be popup blocker in the browser? I saw something flash, a quick popup right before it "crashed" on my end.

I got stuck trying to tick the box. I had to click and drag to "highlight" the box, instead of just clicking.

[–] xthexder@l.sw0.com 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That happened for me too. The whole page froze every minute or so and I had to refresh. I'm not sure if that was part of the game or not...

[–] TrackenDaKracken@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Same. I had to refresh most pages to get them to respond after freezing.

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

I got it in 6:05. Nice game.

Brings me flashbacks to trying to cancel a telecom subscription in France.

They have services there that will take 15eur or so to do it for you, and yep... it's worth it.

[–] nebeker@programming.dev 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Still in the EU, I used a service to switch electric companies. All the telcos offer to cancel your old contract, but then they fight each other and you’re always the loser. It’s unreal.

[–] scrion@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Not my experience at all. There are well defined processes, you pay 2 bucks to send a letter with delivery guarantees and its done. Yeah, that's old school and not online, but it works, comes with legal guarantees and has always been absolutely hassle free for me.

That being said, not all EU countries are the same.

[–] nebeker@programming.dev 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You know, I think my mistake might be doing this in person. People can “yes, yes” you all they want, but, like you said, registered mail is legally hardcore.

[–] scrion@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

You should always assume you're getting screwed over without a paper trail, plenty of reasons why that would happen, plain greed not being the last of them.

[–] kate@lemmy.uhhoh.com 9 points 4 days ago

faster than you :)

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 16 points 5 days ago

That was infuriating but entertaining

I thought the site being unresponsive was a feature, not an actual bug. Don't let that hear those who offers subscription based plans! Anyway, I was annoyed after the second obstacle. Well done simulation.

[–] FukOui@lemmy.zip 15 points 5 days ago

Thanks I hate it

[–] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

This was hysterical. Thanks <3

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

I don't get it the link just takes me to my Amazon account page /s

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 13 points 5 days ago

Legitimately aggravating. Well done.

[–] brotundspiele@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago

I finally found section 6.5 of the Terms6.5We retain information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Section, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law, or unless the information is the name of your first pet, which, if provided, we retain indefinitely for sentimental reasons.

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 9 points 5 days ago

Ugh, it was painful! Well done!

I had an Ultimate Guitar Pro membership run on for two years while I wasn’t using it thanks to dark pattern crap. Needless to say I would feel much less compunction about acquiring the pro tabs by other means after that experience.

[–] NochMehrG@feddit.org 8 points 5 days ago

That was fun! And a reminder that laws, not the market fix stuff like that. smiles in European

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 days ago

The site doesn’t serve actual ads

…yet

There appear to be some bugs here. It keeps hiding window controls which is a problem because half the correct buttons didn't work without a page referesh for me.

[–] gigaqps@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago
[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 days ago

I pride myself in the fact that it’s easier to cancel a subscription on my email service than it is to subscribe. From the home page, it’s four clicks.

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

How come clicking doesn't do anything? Or is that the point? Just to see how long (or how many clicks) it takes before you realize that nothing is interactive and you're just looking at a static image?

[–] JRaccoon@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 5 days ago

As others have mentioned, adblockers seem to break it somehow. It's probably not intentional. The page doesn't serve any (actual) ads, so it's safe to try disabling your ad blocker. For me, refreshing the page a couple of times also fixed the issue even with uBO enabled.

My Firefox-Setup had me modify the Scripts on the first hurdle to make the checkbox clickable. The next hurdle made me sift through js scripts, until i read the comment that said ublock origin messes with this lol
