[now let's see if they do something]

LONDON (AP) — Twenty-five countries including #Britain, #France and a host of #European nations issued a joint statement on Monday that puts more pressure on #Israel, saying the war in #Gaza “must end now” and Israel must comply with international law.

The foreign ministers of countries including #Australia, #Canada and #Japan said “the suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths.” They condemned “the drip feeding of aid and the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, seeking to meet their most basic needs of water and food.”

The statement described as “horrifying” the deaths of over 800 #Palestinians who were seeking aid...

This is a genocide, not a war.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 3 points 1 month ago

The war has to stop, the genocide can continue.

[–] bumblefumble@mander.xyz -1 points 1 month ago

It can be both.

[–] gonzo-rand19@moist.catsweat.com 39 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Then mobilize armies and stop them. Y'all can't be this fucking stupid. A sternly-worded letter does not stop a genocide.

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

But they might SLAM Israel, which will definitely name Israel think twice!

Or else they’ll say ‘stop’ again, but quieter

[–] theUwUhugger@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And we are supposed to do what?

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Sanctions, embargos would be a good start. If that doesn't work, bombing airstrips and motor pools, if that doesn't work, barracks.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago

The Houthis are on to something, do business with Israel? Have fun going around the Horn.

Tell me why it's unrealistic. It's just that no country wants to be called antisemitic, but stopping a genocide against a semitic people can't possibly be realistically called antisemitic.

[–] theUwUhugger@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Countries are not punished for actions of one, the one is punished! Which the world, not the eu as we were not appointed, nor did we appoint ourselves as arbiters of justice; have done so! Netanyahu is wanted by International Criminal Court!

Wanting us to do the same fucking thing for which you want a country to be punished, having operations carried out against civilian population; one mind you that soon might not even be democratic, aka they soon might not even have decision in keeping the one in power; is a very fucking realistic decision to be awaited

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

First of all, none of the things I listed mentioned carrying out operations on civilians. Secondly, he's got charges going on in his own country.

[–] theUwUhugger@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

…bombing airstrips, motor pools, sanctions, embargos…

Like… do you take turns with your alter ego writing comments?

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Those aren't civilian places. They're military. Ya know, the ones killing civilians?

[–] theUwUhugger@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago

Airstrips and motor pools are military? Embargoes and sanctions only hurt military? Can I ask for the other alter ego? They seemed smarter

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 18 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Where the fuck were all of these assholes a year ago?

[–] BreadstickNinja@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

Forget a year ago, Britain was in court a month ago arguing there was "no evidence of genocide in Gaza" after a challenge on supply of military parts to Israel.

Some of these countries I put a little more stock in, but the UK, like the US, is duplicitous as fuck and fully complicit in this Holocaust.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Busy being completely fucking complicit.

[–] pete_link@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago

And what are they going to DO now?

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 month ago

If the UK is involved then this is just a talkie-talkie delaying action to try and avoid actual sanctions against Israel.

[–] a1studmuffin@aussie.zone 11 points 1 month ago

For Russia: economic sanctions

For Israel: stern letter

"concrete action." Try that when you file for unemployment. "I've made the statement I must have a job now."
