this actually looks especially not-ai to my eye, it's some stuff you can only get with that real 90's graphics quality

the Myst aesthetic

[–] supafuzz@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago

yeah this is early Photoshop jank

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

and it looks great. love my shiny 90s raytracing

[–] Tabitha@hexbear.net 23 points 2 weeks ago

Looks AI generated

no it looks like a relatively simple 3D render with a 2 humans drawn on top.

And that girl on the cover is a sexually aggressive 14 year old. Simmons used to teach high-school.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago

Was gonna say, the cover is very loli-coded

[–] DoofusAscendant@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

The 80's/90's problematically horny sci fi era will never be replicated by man nor machine.

Good human slop?

[–] TUMBLE_BUS@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I only read the first book but I don't recall any Myst-esk alien structures in that book.

Is this related to Hyperion? Fun book

[–] TUMBLE_BUS@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah I think it's the third in the trilogy. Hyperion I liked a lot but a friend told me the later books aren't as good.

[–] baahb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Quadrillogy. The later books are fundamentally different and go abour a different task than Hyperion. Who gets to count as human? Also Catholicism (the right one) is the right way! Also, sexually aggressive 14 year old girl who (spoilers) definitely does in fact wind up with the MC who is a grown ass man, though only through goddamn time travel shenanigans.

[–] TUMBLE_BUS@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah I've heard the author is a creep who puts underaged sex in a lot of his books. Sucks cuz I did really like Hyperion.

[–] baahb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I mean... I dont think it was underage, but in that hentai loli way? I think time travel was involved.

I recall a long time ago someone posted an excerpt from another book of his...

CW

spoilerThat I think was set in pre-colonial America and there was a young man from one tribe who ended up in a village of other tribe where all the young women were really turned on by the idea of hooking up with an outsider so they literally formed a reverse gangbang line outside his tent, and goes into pretty painful detail about what they do.

Which, I mean I guess that's technically minors having sex with minors, in a hunter gatherer society where adulthood usually begins at a younger age. But still weird for a grown man to be writing a group teen sex scene.

But I maybe misremembering.

certified Dream Theater album art moment

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago

That book needs an HD texture pack

[–] Beaver@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago

Surprisingly true to the book

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

Doesn't really look like AI, it can't really recreate that kind of vague dreamscape imagery from the 90s.

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

Directly from the era where you could open Corel Paint/Draw and plop in textures and photos and renders easily for the first time.

"human slop"

You didn't have to call me out like this

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

This is fine aside from the extremely weird seating arrangement, why are they facing opposite directions?

[–] TheBroodian@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago
