Betrayed now? Not after they openly mocked you for not wearing a suit?

[–] clanker_victim_555@lemmy.world 7 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

He ate shit and humiliated himself in front of the whole world on the off chance he could still get some benefit for Ukraine. This means he's given up on them.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

People died because of this. Why would mocking his clothing even be a blip in comparison?

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Because they were withholding approved military funding solely because he didn't wear a suit...and all in attendance were mocking him because of it.

[–] jorpylaforge@lemmy.world 2 points 33 minutes ago

They were withholding funding because they are Russian compromised fascists who support Hitlerian invasions of neighboring countries. The complaint about his attire was just the lie of the day.

Exactly. This is a point he can push a lot harder as it's a solid example of how the US cannot be trusted as an ally.

Which is why he can say it now instead of having to suck it up and smile for the cameras

Volodymyr Zelensky should take a history book and read about how the US treats its allies once they are no longer useful.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago

Actually, the US has always supported the Ukrainian quest for independence. Don't listen to the naysayers. They simply don't understand the deep bound that exists between our two nations.

Support them for 46 years until their enemy collapses? That's West Europe.

Elon had already disabled Starlink access to them once, back at the start of the war when Biden was still president. I don't understand why Ukraine hasn't divested of SpaceX at this point. Hopefully they have diversified their sources of intel and comms, at least. Europe is starting to develop some nice alternatives like ICEYE, and have given multiple pledges? suggestions? to utilize it in support of Ukraine, I thought.

The magas keep betraying, it's their thing, and even Bush said don't get fooled so many times. I really want putin to leave and stay in existing lands, has plenty so stop killing all these people and all the suffering. Stop the dictator bs and could have had a much better economy and quality of life for people there if he did the right things, followed the Nordic models. Estonia and others have advanced with their freedom from the unhealthy controlling ways and putin could have done all that too, but no, doubled down on toxic systems and scapegoat minorities. Same horrible policies always bring horrible results for the majority, but the wealthy benefit. The wealthy and powerful protect their benefits and privileges at the expense of the many as we can see over and over in history.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 11 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Using the word "betrayed" implies he trusted him in the first place, which I strongly doubt.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 18 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Zelensky knows how to play the game though

I think Zelensky has done a really good job overall in a really bad situation, but you don't have to read much news to know both Trump and Musk and terrible people and not to be trusted.

Be happy it lasted this long when dealing with these two billionaire psychopaths.

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

it's not like you can choose leaders of an allied states without making it weird.

Keep bombing the oil Zelenskyy it is time to go green

[–] thatOneGuy@aussie.zone 13 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (7 children)

Their ability to bomb* the oil depots is probably related to their starlink/starshield access. 🥺

I guess Trump got tired of all that winning...

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

he ran out of winning quotas for this year. poor Donald.

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 14 points 17 hours ago (4 children)

I felt this was going to happen eventually, I just didn't know how soon. It also follows suit with Trump working to create a new world hegemony where he sees himself acquiring Canada and Greenland and letting everything else fall to Russia and China. The only way it can even begin to be real is with a world war where the US deliberately ghosts Europe and NATO, and it has already begun to do that.

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

Trump's international policy is so incoherent it is much more productive to compare it with type 2 jam instead of international politics.

I for one admire Zelensky for keeping it up until now. There are not many that could be in his position dealing with the Orange corrupted paedophile.

[–] adhdsergio@lemmy.world 26 points 20 hours ago

It's because he puts the good of the country above his personal pride and feelings. He is being a true professional with the orange moron

[–] auzy1@lemmy.world 11 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Whilst it could be argued he's not fighting in the war, he's definitely put a massive target on his own head that is bigger than most soldiers, and keeps himself at risk.

You can hear the sound of Zalensky's massive balls clanging together from miles away.

And unlike Trump, you can tell he isn't worried about what people think of him. He doesn't try to pretend to be a "strong man"

In an un-fucking-believable move, the Americans stopped sharing intelligence and disabled Starlink’s military services, rendering Ukraine completely defenseless against Russian ballistic missiles just prior to a major attack.

This coming shortly after the US essentially negated its economic sanctions on Russian diesel and once again pressured Kyiv to unilaterally cease its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, even as Russia ramps up their own attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Trump is now publically aiding the Russians in their aggression against Ukraine and Europe

[–] Darkmoon_AU@lemmy.zip 9 points 17 hours ago

I've been dumbfounded at the US since the start of the year but I think this marks the moment where they are openly on Russia's side against the West. Dangerous times. I'm rather worried at where this is going.
