That face when the engine of thought pulls along many train cars (some might be empty or only half filled), but the you keep adding more cars (because thoughts are like an interconnected web of multiplying possibilities), and eventually the train starts to derail a bit (but the engine still makes it to the next station).

Your spidertrain comparison speaks to me

I'm just riding the rails of neuronal impulses over here.

[–] EmmiLime@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago

wait wait wait this is a neurodivergent thing??

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's only because I can't do the Terry Prachett thing of having footnotes to my posts.

Here on lemmy? Or somewhere else? FlakesBongler is right for many other places, but for lemmy: https://pandoc.org/MANUAL.html#footnotes (it has the same syntax, both inline and non. I like the inline ones they are easy to make and when writing work quite like just parantheses)

This is definitely not going to negatively affect my posting in any way (thank you).

You just have to be creative about it¹

I hate how often I do this (but I kind of love it too)

[–] unaware@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

inclusing parentheses within parentheses (sometimes I have too much that I want to say [but it doesn't feel like it should be in separate sentences because it's not that important] so I do this)

[–] stalin420@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

Intentionally using dashes - which I also happen to like (more than brackets anyway [they feel too computery]) - just to mix things up a little

[–] muhg@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 1 week ago

Every thought is not isolated, and needs additional context. (We do not have thoughts all on our own, we are recipients of matetial conditions (oh and I'm studying the Elean school of Greek philosophy now, I dunno what kind of crack they were smoking, and how fucking bourgeois they were to be so seperate from material reality) (and to add, I think it might be something about being good at math (or rather solving equations with parenthises) that makes you use parenthises in writing.)) and you might just have some related thoughts in the mean time (try to count the parenthises)).

I love my weird brain (but occasionally I wish it'd shut up for once)

An idea, its offshoot, completed - another offshoot, bracketed differently for visual distinction and to free up the comma - final word; concluding idea that could be another sentence but isn't for some reason.

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

Em dashes too. LLMs can pry them from my cold dead hands.

[–] hotspur@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

This is so weirdly true.

[–] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

I can’t wait for this era of quirkifying neurodivergence to be over

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

it's just a lisp

OUT OF MY HEAD!

[–] bjc@scribe.disroot.org 10 points 1 week ago

that could have been a comma, and would flow quite naturally tbh. parentheticals are far more loosely related tangents.

[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 9 points 1 week ago

Main thought (Optional cosmetic DLC)

[–] QuillQuote@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

My partner screamed when I showed them this lol

[–] solrize@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago

Is this supposed to explain Lisp?

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

I'm in this image and i don't like it

[–] ExtimateCookie@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I do that while speaking and can almost feel the parenthesis forming

[–] casskaydee@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Do you ever forget to close the parenthesis when you do this

[–] Lurkerino@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

The parentesis opens another parentesis until all relevant information is sumarised or at least mentioned

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

And no one ever gets to hear what your point was because they cut in at a random punctuation

LMAO.

Wait...

[–] TrackShovel@lemmy.today 5 points 1 week ago

How dare you criticize my professional writing like this?

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago
[–] D61@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

With me you get context (and subtext) in the same paragraph!
