Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

You misspelt beavis and butthead

(oh shit is ren and stimpy even older?)

[–] Magnum@infosec.pub 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, its two years older than Beavis & Butthead (which released in 1993)

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

That's really interesting, because in Germany we didn't have nickelodeon back then. But mtv and beavis and butthead.

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

Beavis and Butthead: 1993-97

Ren and Stimpy: 1991-95

Ren and Stimpy is older

Amateurs. Back in my day we didn't have videos at all, we just ate dirt, and had lead in the air and water.

You children emerged from the ocean? Terrible idea as you can well see.

[–] earlier_riser@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Pfft listen to this young’un with multiple cells over here.

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Big talk coming from a greenhorn with a nucleus. In my day we didn't even have membrane-bound organelles and we did just fine!

[–] zarathustrad@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Look at this guy with a cell membrane!

Back in my day we had to wrangle ribozymes without the luxury of a lipid bilayer. Yet we still managed to replicate RNA.

Kids these days read books about romance and knights, and that sort of frivolous waste of time will corrupt the youth into idleness and vanity. They need to work harder in the field, milk the cows and feed the chickens. A book never yet grew a bushel of wheat.

Emule was my tool for sketchy stuff like that. And oh boy was there some sketchy stuff in there..

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

Back in my day we watched shows made to sell toys. Some of them, for example TMNT, actually turned out pretty good, but a lot of them do not hold up at all.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 days ago

And before that, TV.

[–] kepix@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

[–] rem26_art@fedia.io 5 points 2 days ago

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Zelda, Duke Onkled is under attack by the evil forces of Ganon.

[–] earlier_riser@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I’m going to Gamalon to aid him.

We had to make those stupid paper mache puppet heads and glue cloth to it for our hands and then put on a puppet show while not one single person went off and worked on a good script!

I'm trying to think of the equivalent when I was a kid. Dial-up was a thing (some universities and companies and probably some rich folks had better, but the average person that even cared about getting online didn't), but just getting images involved downloading multiple parts of the data from newsgroups and stitching it together.

My first thought was maybe watching home videos or AFHV for that media or something like MAD magazine, though neither really seems to fit.

We played text based adventures and liked it! Such enrichment. I crawled in the dumb waiter.... The Count (1979)

people who worry about "kids these days" are invariably the mediocre kids of yesteryear.
