The thing that annoys me about these sort of tools is they often spend no time on the most important decision for most users: gnome v KDE. For most new users, that is the big choice, and most distros are kinda the same once you've picked that. Package managers can always be learned, but UI/UX is a really core part of the experience.

Would be funny if somebody forked it but with all results ending up in Arch linux.
All roads eventually end up at Arch. And then some people get lost in the misty Nix Forest. Some never find their way out.
I went from Ubuntu to Debian, then to Arch, then to Alpine. Can't wait to move off from Linux completely to get a kernel with a sane democratic management.
Nah, some of us land on Gentoo from the beginning, and then watch the Arch people act like teens who think they're edgy. 😜
Arch users think they're... "edgy"? Honestly, if I had the patience to wait for compilation when upgrading, I'd run Gentoo as well. Arch for me was the next best thing in terms of making the system "my own". I mostly feel in love with the packaging system of Arch and how easy it was to make my own packages. Great stuff.
Gentoo provides binary packages if you don't want to compile.
That's cool. What does Gentoo do better than Arch in your opinion? Any category! 🙂
I haven't used Arch in a long time, but from what I remember...
Arch and Gentoo are both rolling releases, but Gentoo is rolling stable while Arch is bleeding edge.
If you game, you can't beat being able to drop kernel patches in a folder and have them applied on every update. Works for all packages, not just the kernel.
GURU has a bit more oversight than the AUR, but not as many packages.
I'm thinking Arch is definitely for me, then:
- I prefer bleeding edge. No delay, things haven't broken my system in a decade, seems like it's fine for personal use anyway.
- I don't need any kernel patches as a heavy gamer, my system can run whatever you throw at it.
- The AUR seems to have a far simpler and less convoluted process for contributing than GURU.
Still, I'm curious: what kernel patches do you feel the need to apply, as a gamer?
You can enable the bleeding edge too, if you like. The repos have multiple versions of packages.
I need the bigsceen beyond patches for better VR support.
I've never contributed to the AUR, so I can't really compare. GURU does have a bit of process in exchange for some oversight, but there are completely unmoderated overlays too.
That's completely fair! I think pacman is a much nicer to use package manager than emerge, and Arch has a great community :3
I swear there was already a version of that where every option leads to EndeavourOS
Seems broken...
No, I will not cosider Debian for a "bleeding edge' 'gaming' setup.
What's the difference between all these? I just know distrochooser, and usually recommended it. If there's better alternatives, I'm all ears.
woohoo, It works. It recommended my favorite - Fedora Workstation (KDE Plasma)
a little dull ...
I see Tumbleweed, i like it.
Look at this fucking mess. Who left all these glowing question marks around? And come on people, put your distro back when you’re done with it!
I got Fedora workstation, which is what I use :)
Unsurprisingly Debian stable.
Not sure if blasphemous or enlightened but I run Debian stable with niri built from source lol. I moved over from Gnome recently and its actually pretty nice. It's like Debian Stable "The Remix"
