What I fear is that Trump will declare a "state of emergency" to try and save "SI", and then try to invoke a martial law or similar to get the will of the AI vendors come true.

Dude, it's 500 BILLION, you're off by 3 orders of magnitude

[–] cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Technically I'm off by 1 letter of magnitude though.

[–] HertzDentalBar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The difference between AI and The Auto Bailouts is the auto bailouts actually required repayment, and was to protect real jobs and real industrial knowledge.

This AI bubble won't be able to bailed out, it's not real, it's not jobs, it's nothing but fake numbers, there's no chance they can ever repay anything and the knowledge is already mostly public and can be recreated without wasting billions more to forward the tech.

And if they do bail them out... It means money actually means nothing and Americans should just burn down their government.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

I mean they should anyway, but point.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 13 points 1 day ago

Please let them fucking die

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago (4 children)

AOC and Bernie Sanders are trying to pass laws to prevent bailout of AI.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

The democratic House resolution is basically an opinion letter. It's no different than when they pass a resolution declaring that Christmas is a special time of year.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 11 points 1 day ago

We physically cannot bail them out, but it is highly preferable that we not die trying

[–] dan69@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Bailouts in general right??

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 5 points 1 day ago

Should pass right after the 1% get there's ensuring no one else can succeed after them

Oh if the orange turd is still in power he'll "bail" them out no questions asked

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 101 points 2 days ago

Capitalize profits

Socialize losses

When things are going great, give everything to the rich ... when things eventually go badly, let the poor pay for everything. Why would the world want to hurt or take away the rich man's wealth?

[–] AnnaFrankfurter@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

US is already 40Trillion in debt what's a few more zeros

[–] nodiratime@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Given the high bond yield the US now has, this seems like a great idea!

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 60 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Let's see, Anthropic is about a trillion, OpenAI is about a trillion, AMD is about a trillion, SpaceX and Meta are two trillion each, Amazon is 3, Microsoft is 4, Google is 4, Nvidia is almost 6... So something on the magnitude of a $20 trillion bailout?

The USA budget is only a quarter of that. The entire federal budget.

This is going to be fucked, isn't it?

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Remember, it will be a mere $10 down and Easy Payments^tm^ of one trillion a year over 20+ years.

They’d have to incinerate Social Security, defund every school, let infrastructure rot, and hyper-inflate the dollar into worthlessness just to keep Wall Street’s AI bubble afloat... Which is beyond fucked.

Welcome back to life as a peasant.

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

Welcome back to life as a peasant.

Which is sort of what their glimpses of post-AI jobs in the future they could actually substantiate suggest. It's all a big heist from the wealth of the people into the pockets of the wealthiest using the smoke and mirrors of a "democratic" government, fueled by the possibility of them no longer having to placate human societies in any way if AI and robotics becomes advanced enough.

Maybe they can just Klarna it, there’s no interest right?

AMD is cash positive. They have 2 billion long term debt but hold 13 billion cash (as of June 2026). Where are your numbers coming from? AMD's market cap isn't even quite a trillion and market cap is just last sale price multiplied by total shares.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Numbers are from Wikipedia.

It's certainly likely that not all of these companies will need a bailout. AMD and NVIDIA sell products that are generally useful and established, but it's hard to say how much of any of these company's value is tied into AI hysteria or contracts that will fall through when AI customers go belly-up.

Yes, the bailout price is also not the same as valuation. I don't think it's outrageous to think that the coming recession will wipe out $20 trillion from the market, though.

...and the AmeriKans continue to tell the world how much they despise SOCIALISM. Go pee in the wind.

[–] HaraldvonBlauzahn@feddit.org 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Profits are privatized, losses are socialized.

Looking closely at it, it is a system that brilliantly combines the disadvantages of capitalism and socialism.

Once again, the American middle class, or what's left of it, will be the ruling class's personal piggy bank.

And they will be granted, because it's the only thing holding up the illusion that is the economy right now

[–] Fluffy_Ruffs@lemmy.world 44 points 2 days ago (17 children)

Under any other administration I wouldn't believe such a thing would be a possibility. I can see Trump offering funds in exchange for relabeling products "Super AI".

its considered acceptable to kill someone if they're trying to rob you. in america its considered rude to not use a gun.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. it usually feels disproportionate, but austerity and centralization have a very real death toll, so maybe it's not.

[–] Pappabosley@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago

Their IPO's are already socialising the debt they gathered, right into your stock portfolio/ retirement fund

[–] Kintarian@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Too big to fail. It’s Deja vu all over again.
