This is one of those "worst cunt you know has valid point" moments.

Yeah, censorship and surveillance is not the way

[–] blind3rdeye@aussie.zone 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Maybe it's not the way. But that's not a reason for a company, who engage in their own censorship and surveillance, to shirk our laws.

Sure, but it's a reason for everyone to fight against such laws

Agree it may not be the way but it's hard to take this seriously;

"Reddit, one of the top 10 websites visited in the world, has challenged the teen social media ban on the grounds it impinges the implied freedom of political communication for under-16s."

Ah yes, social media, the best place for under 16s (or... anyone?) to engage with politics. 😂 I get the point but c'mon. Reddit. Really?

Reddit have also announced their plan to go logged in only.

Combine the requirement to register to see anything with the age verification and you have a lot of people who will never visit your site again.

They are going to see a massive dropoff in readership from Australia. Luckily my accounts haven't required verification so far but if they did I guess I'll never visit reddit again.

Use Lemmy lol. No age verification, community run and no algorithms either.

I am replying on Lemmy =p

Unfortunately some communities haven't moved off of Reddit yet so I straddle still.

Reddit can fuck off.

Never expected reddit to start supporting teenagers' autonomy. Not perfect but about time youth rights start being mentioned.

This isn't hard to grasp. Reddit only "supports" youth rights because they want their engagement and their data to exploit and manipulate them with advertising and propaganda... the same applies to adults.

Corporations are not your friend, and they will only act in your interests when they deem it their most profitable option. If their most profitable option is genocide, like Microsofts contracts with the IDF, then they will choose to profit from the murder of your entire family and community.
