My grandma always tried turning her oceans acidic and it works great! I dump all my left over plastics in there to make it extra strong. The societies I get afterwards are usually impossibly strong or just wipe themselves out. At that point though it's so much work.
Tbh my grandma's best advice was: "if a planet dies on you, that's just God telling you it wasn't meant to be". Which makes sense because all of these planets I see that last twice as long as mine are all using artificial, managed governments and everyone looks so sad in their public houses that are made of concrete.
I think the planets grow happier with natural pollution and government systems that appeal only to the most basal impulses of it's inhabitants. Maybe yours isn't libertarian enough?
