These are some of the worst people you will ever come across. I hope it gets worse for them.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

and only them. Unfortunately, we all have to be brought down by their hateful stupidity.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'm surrounded by them here in the south and i have zero sympathy for them. Many of their business's are starting to slow or fail and i can only laugh at them.

In the south people choose their political party at birth and treat it like a sports team that they REFUSE to ever give up on. Self destruction is one of their favorite past times.

Goldwater and Nixon's "Southern Strategy" has been paying dividends for Republicans for 60 years

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

My cousins live in the south. They chose that area because, in their words, it's "expensive" where I live.

Last week, they vented about the housing prices and groceries. Their house market is now the same price as the housing in my "expensive" area. But their area also has federal min wage at $7.25 an hour. Where my city is double.

This is their main issue. They always complained about paying property taxes in New York or some other northern state, but then also complain about the cost of housing, driving distances, car prices, and insurance. You also have to deal with politicians taking away your rights and passing shitty laws constantly that hurt you. So glad i don't work retail anymore, hated hearing them complain about that crap.

i knew it would be in the article at some point:

Yet Todd still says: “I voted for Trump. I don’t regret that. We’re God-fearing, conservative people.”

troompa loompas could literally be starving in the street, their whole family dying of polio or some other shit we thought we got rid of, and they'll still sing the praises of the one who directly caused all their problems. because jesus, guns, and get rid of the brown people

[–] leftascenter@jlai.lu 77 points 5 days ago

Worst part is a modern US Jesus would be all eat-the-rich anti-establishment, founder of a commune (or several as he travels), and get killed "by accident" in an ICE raid.

Remember the Hermain Cain Award subreddit?

Hundreds of documented cases of people vehemently refusing real treatment for a 'fake' disease, being immensely cocky and belligerent untill very nearly the end, and then, near the end... still somewhere between defiant, in denial, and delusional.

... Those are the private citizens in the US with the vast majority of the guns.

You are completely correct, many areas of the US will collapse into pockets of highly armed, highly religious cults, utterly bereft of anything resembling logic, beyond the sociopathic logic of how to run a cult.

Basically, a couple of David Koresh's for every county. Good luck!

Anybody who says "we're a God fearing family" should be immediately locked up.

Firstly because it's a meaningless platitude that doesn't actually make sense, and secondly because it actually means ";-) I'm a Nazi, but obviously I would get offended if you ever actually called me out on it".

No nice person has ever said that.

And that quote is why I laugh at these fucking idiots. I genuinely do not have the capacity to empathize with people who are so idiotically and uncritically dogmatic.

The people around here are so stupid. I talk about moving to MA or another North Eastern state and they're like "The cost of living is so high there!" Yeah, it might be, but MA has some of the most progressive social safety nets and policies in the USA. The only thing I take grievances with are their restrictive gun laws. Other than that, no, MA looks far better than a shit stain red state I live in.

I moved to rural America after living in the city. I just don't understand why so many farmers have trump signs still up, it's been a really tough year for farmers and he's not helped them one bit

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 38 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I also moved to a rural area after living in a city for 20 years, and there is a guy that lives near me that is a farmer and he has a giant hand made sign in his lawn that says "Unvaxed sperm is the next Bitcoin." You just can't underestimate how stupid people are. They'll be nice to you in person and then just butt chug newsmax and racist Facebook memes.

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 12 points 4 days ago

It's the one-two punch of poor education and the propaganda of our media environment.

They are hateful racists. It's really that simple

[–] derfunkatron@lemmy.world 22 points 4 days ago

Their racism is ancillary and it’s not that simple. MAGA exploits several rotten elements in rural American society; racism is just one of them

I think the simplest explanation is that they have been conditioned to hate and fear first and do not consider any person innately equal until that person has proven themselves to be worthy of value. To enter the American south, you walk into a minefield of social faux pas and a mire of shibboleths. You fucked up just by driving in with “Yankee” license plates. Hell, you can fuck up by having the wrong county on your plates (which is a thing in the south). For a group of people who hate anything “woke” or involving critical theory, they are a textbook example of intersectionality; their identity is complex and why they don’t like you is even more complicated.

They have been conditioned to distrust anything they don’t immediately understand, dwell peacefully in contradiction, be selectively empathic, and ignore their own self-interests whenever it does not exclusively benefit them. This is the “temporarily embarrassed millionaire” and “my true reward awaits in heaven” crowd. You can’t reason with them because they answer to a higher power and it’s all part of god’s plan. And if you make the mistake of quoting scripture at them, they write you off as a know-it-all who has read the Bible but hasn’t read it with your heart.

They are generationally impoverished, both financially and intellectually. The south suffers from massive brain drain and financially successful people are just those that God has blessed. There’s no charity for those outside of their immediate social circle. There’s no such thing as southern hospitality, just public manners. Bless your heart, they’re talking shit before you walk out the door.

Southern society craves authoritarianism and aristocracy because blind respect for authority and power are deeply rooted in their culture and religion (and that’s exactly what the antebellum south was; that’s their “heritage”). Trump promises to make it all great and lift them back into their rightful place because they all think they will be the plantation master.

No shit. Prices just went up to pay for an illegal overtaking of another country's assets to satisfy already filthy rich oil barons at taxpayers expense. Wheeeeee!

I always call them out when i can on social media, but they report my comment as misinformation and they get removed.

It's about time to start putting up the "I did that stickers" all over the place like MAGA did with Biden.

"This is not what I voted for!" - cue Morgan Freeman: It was, indeed, exactly what they had voted for.

Think how much it'll keep rising when he's fighting simultaneous wars in Venezuela, Greenland, Cuba and Mexico.

Have the day you voted for, morons!

People who voted against this shit (and no, third party doesn't count) have my fullest sympathy, of course

Unfortunately those of us who voted against him can't afford it either.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 36 points 5 days ago

AND THEY STILL SUPPORT HIS STUPID FUCKING ORANGE ASS

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 25 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

They’re getting everything they voted for. I’m happy for hem! Congratulations you did it. Great job!

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 17 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Nothing will change until MAGA Americans have to eat the shit sandwich they've been making.

Unfortunately, many of them will be unable (due to a combination of a lack of education and a steady diet of propaganda) to understand the source of their new rations.

They just announced on the news that the oil companies are already using the Venezuela Invasion as an excuse to raise prices. Expect an expensive 2026, and tell them what you think of it in November.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 23 points 5 days ago (6 children)

They'll still vote red.... because they'll have been told that all of this is the blue teams fault.

How about smarten up.

You're smart enough to run your little farms and shit. But aren't smart enough to educate yourself?

[–] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 39 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (3 children)

I wasted some time trying to chat with these idiots on another social network and was shocked to discover the vast majority of them are functionally illiterate. Critical thinking ain't gonna happen, and anyway it's Biden's fault.

I would say stop voting for republicans but they can't tie the two things together. All those greedy companies are all somehow run by democrats. Its so... pathetic.

If I was a God believer, I would think God created covid to give americans a chance to get rid of the pedo-dictator before it was too late. Jan 6 was a bonus to make sure he was sent to prison. But then.... it's the USA, where being a selfish under-educated racist is basically a skill.
