Meh, it's a silly claim. The measures will clearly go after people in left wing organizations, as they always have. If they'll hit other people, it's by increasing surveillance in the name of security.

What will it mean in practice? Probably increased funding to the secret police, the federal bureau for the protection of the constitution.

im half german btw, though i live in belgium. I know that there are leftists orgs though there parties are hardly in power and are often already hidden. The problem I have is that this union guy is attempting to shift the overton window again, and instating a CDU/AFD hegemony. This could also mean people who are having opinions that are slightly left leaning could be targeted.

I have lived in Germany btw, and my family had to flee from existential poverty and neonazis attacking us. (and this shouldn't escalate to who's is more German and who knows about Germany more).

I know about Merz, but i wouldn't call him a German Ronald Reagan. He is far more sinister and corporate and he is a nazi. He always has been a horrible person.

I think we're facing a double problem of "Left" being too dogmatic and not radical enough at the same time. It's happening to various extents all around the "Wester" world.

I don't have a solution. I hardly have any resources because I wasted most of my life so far on dogmatism, so now I'm trying to address that.

I might be wrong here, but I think the correct thing to do for me would be to just focus on getting myself in as high position of influence as I can and ignore the critique of me participating in society. I trust that people will just give me the pickaxe treatment if I turn out to be a traitor anyways or I'd hope so.

Honestly I'd prefer if someone else just gave me the orders on what is to be done, but that's probably what most people around me are thinking...

I’ll give you orders if you like: get in an influential position if possible but don’t put all your time and energy into it and make sure you have a leftist community around you to hold you accountable. Look for any possibility for agitation within your workplace or community and start agitating and forming a rigid network of people ready to be radicalised.

This sounds a bit too abstract without an example so here’s one:

Suppose you live in a building with shit conditions and a rich landlord who doesn’t hide their wealth very well. Start talking to your neighbours about these conditions and form a tenants committee to address it and to try to build some leverage against your landlord. The only way to build leverage is to have a large majority of tenants on your side so you can do coordinated actions. So a large part of the work by the tenants committee would be talking to neighbours and making connections to use later. A groupchat is a good way to keep the community you’re building connected. While the initial goal for this community is to improve your living conditions, you will quickly find out that it is useful in many other instances as well:

  • If fascists come to your neighbourhood you can quickly mobilise to outnumber them.
  • If your building is planned for demolition you can quickly react and start your counter offensive towards your landlord by organizing protests and talking to local media networks to create outrage.
  • People will likely start using the community you built for mutual aid as well.
  • whenever a general strike is called its success will depend fully on community structures such as these.

An influential position is only useful if you can use it in your organizing. For example by providing supplies or other forms of support or by using the access you have to reach more people and make more allies.

I need to actually become independent myself before I do any of this. I don't even have a home. I own nothing. I don't even have a bank account.

The only reason I got by so far is thanks to Liberalism or transfer of wealth specifically. Like people helping me out cause of my disabilities.

And the only way I can become independent is if I stop listening to people telling me what to do. Otherwise at this rate I'm almost become another homeless person roaming the streets and no amount of Karl Marx seems to be capable of preventing that reality from coming true. I need to do something more than that.

Only I can analyze my current position and come up with a plan to execute, but some people will inevitably hate me for it. I always get someone telling me I'm not doing this good enough or that good enough and then I just quit and give up and go back to studying the books, only to repeat the same mistake over and over again.

I'm like trying to do witchcraft here, if only I find the right ingredients. Like I've tried approaching people, they don't listen to me, tried to talk people into forming unions they don't listen to me, but there's probably a bunch of leftists who are trying to find that magical recipe on how to build socialism and it's not going to work.

We don't choose our material conditions that we're born into, nobody is born equal, we can take inspiration from others, but the past cannot be repeated.

Sorry maybe my reply came off harsh, that wasn’t my intention. You said you’d like to have orders on what is to be done so you don’t have to think about it, and my intention was to jokingly reply to that with my own organizing knowledge.

You are absolutely correct in that every situation is different and that you don’t choose your conditions, and I don’t judge you at all for what you are and aren’t doing since I don’t know what your conditions are.

My advice is just a general advice for those who have the time and energy to start organizing. I know that the basics of community organizing are unknown to most people so I try to mention it wherever I can.

I’m really sorry if this is more unwanted advice, but just know that there are methods to convince people to join a union or community, and without those methods it can be very difficult. Secrets of a Successful Organizer is a good book that covers these methods. But again, this is only for if you find yourself to have the time and energy to look into it. I wanted to mention it so that you know that you shouldn’t blame yourself for not having been successful in trying to make people more active before.

There's no need to apologize, it's a complicated issue and you had no knowledge of the circumstances I'm dealing with.

This is still value information for any comrade out there who can make use of it so I appreciate you sharing it.

My own message was meant more for anyone who has ties to an already existing org. that they should expand their reach, because there are absolutely people out there who want to contribute and maybe we aren't perfect and I'm sure there are a lot of disagreements, but we need to use whatever methods we can to build up strength in sheet numbers or as the kids say we're gonna be so cooked.

I'm not naive enough that I think this is going to actually end up reaching anyone, but it's worth a try haha
