My favorite part of MTG turning on her friends is that it is all in response to being told she won't be endorsed as a Senate candidate by the GOP. If she can't have her fiefdom then no one can.

[–] egerlach@lemmy.ca 122 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That's the thing about authoritarians: they attract authoritarian followers (thought not exclusively). If the authoritarian at the top fails to recognize those of their followers that have the same traits and give them enough of a "fiefdom" to rule, then they betray. It's one of the things that makes fully authoritarian rule fragile (most long-term successful dictators ensure they give enough power to the right people under them).

First Rule of Fascism: You can piss off your citizens, you can piss off your staff, but you absolutely cannot piss off your military leaders. They actually hold the power, and would have no problem just shooting you in the face, if the situation was dire enough.

Also, friendly reminder than Stalin died a horrible and painful death because he told his guards to not disturb him, and he lied there in a pool of his own piss until most of the day was gone. Extreme punishments for breaches of protocol come with a cost.

Or have them executed.

Not only her. The infighting became very apparent at some point before the '24 election when it looked like The Don might have to go to prison, or otherwise be unable to run. For a few weeks, they were all at each other's throats.

And it's getting hotter under the surface as Trump is getting too frail/senile to govern.

Dropped a bombshell? More like dropped some water in the ocean. This is obvious to anyone not burying their head in the sand.

[–] IratePirate@feddit.org 36 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Not on this side of the great information rift, no. But think of the people imprisoned inside the MAGA echo chamber. For them this may be news, and MJT and Rogan do have the potential to pierce the walls of their "conservative" media rubber rooms just enough for some fresh air to come through.

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They're on that side because they choose to be there. There could be a cure for cancer on this side and they wouldn't care.

[–] IratePirate@feddit.org 9 points 1 week ago

I'm not defending or glorifying either of them. They've done tons of damage to the U.S. by spreading lies and division. What I'm saying is that they might prove useful idiots for a change, fracturing the MAGA cult just enough to allow the less brainwashed to come to their senses.

I mean, everyone already knew this

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

It's good for her supporters to hear her say this.

[–] matlag@sh.itjust.works 0 points 6 days ago

How many supporters does she have left? There must have been a big overlap with the MAGA-no-matter-what, and I would assume most were not pro-MTG first, pro-Trump second.

It's good to see cracks in the MAGA figures ranks, but I doubt she still has as much influence as medias and social networks attention.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip -1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

She's been rino'd, they won't listen

It’s too late, though. She’d dead to hardcore MAGA, no Rumble influencer would dare amplify her, and algorithms would never show this to people more on the fence.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago

One report I saw says she changed her stance when some of her supporters did. There's no doubt she brings along a few people and that's good.

I'll never like her.

I will begrudgingly acknowledge that she was likely suckered in the same way so many people were suckered, and is now trying to do the right thing.

I will continue to quietly suspect that she's probably an accessory to the cover up in some way and is trying to save her own ass.

However, the enemy of my enemy and all...

[–] bampop@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Sometimes, even basically evil people have a line they won't cross. Deceiving the public and corrupting the rule of law beyond repair, just to protect a cabal of pedophile rapists, seems to be that line, for an alarmingly small number of republicans. I guess she just didn't think it would come to that. MTG is probably just your basic greedy racist vindictive kind of evil. I can imagine why the sadistic child raping stuff might be a deal breaker for some people.

[–] snowboardbumvt@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (5 children)

I think MTG is loyal to "her people". She's fine when "other people" are hurt, but Epstein and his co-conspirators hurt white, Christian, American girls. We're seeing more and more people breaking off from MAGA based on their personal principles, like the NRA and other 2nd amendment rights group speaking out against the Pretti shooting.

Donald has no principles whatsoever, he just wants to "win" and demands absolute loyalty no matter what. It looks like some of his supporters are starting to see the con job, or maybe they already did, but they're starting to realize that allying with a man who will betray you as soon as you're no longer useful is a bad strategy.

The thing is, the line here wasn't some moral conflict. From what I understand, she's mad because the republicans wouldn't back her senate run. All this was ok with her as long as she continued to have a political career.

MTG represents the post-Epstein MAGA movement. All the fascist policy, none of the Epstein baggage. She is extremely valuable to the movement pivoting around the pedophilia.

[–] Kacarott@aussie.zone 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It seems to me to be a good thing if MAGA is fracturing? I'd be more concerned if they were unified in hiding behind one scapegoat, to avoid repercussions from the Epstein files

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yes, it is a good thing. But the rat won't drown itself, so it's looking for any line to safety.

Why would Jeffrey Epstein's BEST FRIEND who FINGER RAPED CHILDREN try to Protect Jeffrey Epstein?

-Republicans who Do Their Own Research TM!

I appreciate that this is in the "not the onion" community. ~~Woman~~ MGT makes common sense statement! Bombshell news!

Edit: Accidental sexism. My problem is with MGT, not women.

[–] Gust@piefed.social 114 points 1 week ago (8 children)

I mean, the woman was MTG. More accurately, woman who believes in Jewish space lasers that control the weather makes common sense statement! Bombshell news!

[–] JackDark@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago

sigh... Fair.

Sorry folks.. MAGA will NOT be WOKE. MTG has already been tossed, shredded and labeled misfit by king pedophile himself.

Keep dreamin'.

[–] PillBugTheGreat@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Someone got their claws into MTG to have her come out as a dark horse candidate aiming to disrupt a JD Vance presidency. She would be the candidate in this scenario. She is being positioned to be the candidate that "saw through the bullshit and is on normal conservatives' side".

It very likely will work.

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

That may be the case. But AOC is on record saying MTG is just acting out of rage due to the fact that Trump personally killed any chance of her becoming a Georgia senator. Apparently that was the straw that broke the camel's back resulting in the current incarnation of MTG.

How many more bombshells to bring this scumbag down? I feel like we're about 149 bombshells in and still nothing is happening

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that nothing is happening. That's not to say I don't understand how you could think that. And I'm sorry I don't mean to single you out. There's a lot of this sentiment going around.

TV news and even most of our platforms algorithms are actively hiding the work that's being done, the results being achieved, and a sense of doom is being injected into the discourse from every conceivable angle.

Here's what's actually happened in the last few weeks. Please copy and paste this list to help chill the doomer bullshit.

  • Multiple deep-red state legislative seats flipped Democratic in special/off-year elections
  • Texas State Senate SD-9 flipped (Trump +17 district)
  • GOP margins collapsing in seats previously considered “safe red”
  • Greg Bovino removed from Border Patrol leadership after Minneapolis backlash
  • ICE ended / wound down the Minneapolis enforcement surge (per DHS statements)
  • Federal courts repeatedly blocking or pausing Trump-aligned immigration actions
  • DOJ forced into written explanations to Congress over Epstein file handling
  • Pam Bondi Judiciary hearing exposed internal contradictions and GOP fractures
  • MAGA figures publicly breaking with Donald Trump over Epstein disclosures
  • House Judiciary and Oversight escalating demands for documents and testimony
  • Hundreds of active lawsuits challenging Trump-aligned executive actions
  • State AGs successfully freezing federal funding cuts through injunctions
  • Courts increasingly intervening before policies take effect rather than after damage
  • GOP forced into defensive posture instead of agenda-setting

They have 0 momentum right now. The ground is actively crumbling beneath them. The outlook isn't as bleak as our media sources would want us to believe.

One more thing to add is that historically the outcomes of these kinds of tension are literally never what anyone predicts. Never the authoritarians, never the people fighting for their rights. What outcomes follow always have everything to do with how hard those continuing to fight fought.

The reason the news has us believing we've made no progress is because we're winning a class war.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 10 points 1 week ago

NIce summary, and nicely timed. Keep pushing friends! The tide is turning, but that's not passive, it's from our actions. Take a breath, do your self care, help those whom you are able, and keep pushing onward.

Wow. What a shocking bombshell.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (6 children)

One thing I like about her is that she became super outspoken about the fact that Israel basically has congress occupied. Most people in congress have an aipac handler they have to run everything by. Epstein and Ghisline were Mossad so I respect her honesty on this one issue.

"Jewish people control everything" but with more words

ah yes, more """Anti-Zionism"""?

Just because someone says something you agree with about Israel doesn't mean you should forget that she also believes Jewish people are secretly controlling the world and it's weather.

If she's anti-Israel than you can be assured she isn't against it because of aipac money colonialism, it's because she's legitimately Anti-Semitic

The MAGA fucknuts are too dumb and brainwashed to realize the shit they voted for.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago

Wait, the orange child rapist doesn't want the files of -just some of- those child rapes to be released? No way. Say it ain't so!!

[–] johncandy1812@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

She's just another grifter who sided with Trump when it benefitted her. Now's she's trying to benefit from their disassociation. Like all those former Trump staffers who have "seen the light" and are who are now MSNBC pundits selling their books on TV.
