Trump is the best thing to happen to America's global reputation. At least that's what he's gonna say in his speech tonight

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 77 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Thats not just Australia. That's all of earth. EVERYONE sees trump as a global threat, because everybody has eyes and a brain.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And every country has this tiny minority screaming "NO! WE NEED TO SUCK HIS COCK! GARRBBBLLRLWAAARGBLLLGBBLLLRBBRBRBRB" and for some reason more and more people are like, hey, check out these dudes gobbling geriatric oligarch cock, let's all get in on that!

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

Horrifying, yet accurate description of global politics right now. Just needs the part where governments any corporations are trying to get AI to rule the world.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Not true, the Russians are quite fond of him.

Israeli's too

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Everyone else has a buddy though.

We're sort of up shit creek if we lose US.

We're not and cannot be a part of NATO, even if we were France has said many, many times over the decades that they'd NEVER come to Australia's aid, they only care about mainland Europe.

China is breathing down our neck and the only real military Allies we have are US and Japan (NZ doesn't count as a military force, they're our best friends but we're going to have to cover for them in a fight)

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

*All of the West. Most of the world doesn't give a rat's ass about Trump, at least not any more than other US presidents. It's not like America was exactly peaceful when Biden or gasp Obama was president.

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 35 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There's a big difference between the two.

You can work with a stable dictator. You know what's coming or what to expect. You know where they'll push their weight around and that it was a highly calculated move based on shrewd political acumen.

With an unstable one, you get tariffs imposed, cancelled, reimposed, reduced because of flattery, accusations, insults and the smell of shit in the air.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 16 points 2 days ago

Lawful evil compared to chaotic evil.

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Precisely.

We have a choice between doing business with a dictator who acts calmly and predictably, or a raving lunatic who fucks kids.

[–] hector@lemmy.today -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As opposed to your stable leader that just covers for the swells that fucked kids with epstein, made his name purging the left and crushing popular reform from the labor party, and has cancelled the right to protest, locked down the internet and created a masterbaitorbase, cancelled the Magna Carta and it's jury trials to a larger extent than the traitorous tories before them in 2020, and what else, bad faith terror designations to crush dissent against the very country that epstein was employed to compromise politicians for?

Not so good all that, in fact the UK has lost more than the US since the US president came into power it appears, even if they don't realize it, or even support it because it's "their" side doing it.

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Pipe down and go take your meds

[–] hector@lemmy.today -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How about you get a fucking spine and defend your freedoms from the aristocracy that is playing you while they take away your freedoms and make you into a slave? You aren't special, you guys are even further along in getting fucked than we are.

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No thanks. I'll stick to the topic in hand, which was agreeing with the person before me that doing business with a calm and consistent dictator is preferable to doing business with an unhinged lunatic

[–] hector@lemmy.today 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is it though, because that's what you have and you are losing more than we are. Which is my point. I rational sounding actor can do more damage than a blowhard. Your country is proof of that, mate.

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 1 points 2 days ago

Which is why I'd prefer we do business with neither.

But instead of having a rational conversation about it you've launched on some rant against me.

I'm bored of you now.

[–] Hotznplotzn@lemmy.sdf.org 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Asking whether China, Russia, or the US will be the biggest threat to Australia,

  • 31% say China is the biggest threat
  • 17% say it is the US
  • 5% say Russia
  • 31% say all three are equal

Using the Trumpean decline into a dictatorship to whitewash China's genocidal policies - by calling Xi a "stable dictator" or even calling China a reliable partner as it is often done - is odd to say the least.

In that respect the title is highly misleading, but it aligns with OP's spin of spreading pro-China authoritarian propaganda narratives as their post history shows.

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

OP is actually a bot. so many posts within an hour regularly, and compared to that, very few comments. whoever controls the account is not here to have a discussion

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nah. Trump alone cannot drag down the reputation of the whole country. The reason we hate america more now is because trump is so openly corrupt, that we can see how corrupt his buddies are too. And his buddies are the ones that run america.

The entire GOP is doing everything it can to protect trump from any legal consequences. All the big tech companies openly bribe him to get away with the shit they do. His voters are no longer ashamed of the racist and fascist shit that come out their mouths. Pete hegseth and Co. brag about how much they hate their "freeloading" allies.

Bringing down the reputation of America is a team effort. You cannot just throw trump under the bus.

[–] amorpheus@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Another reason is that it's not like there was a coup and the population is being held hostage. They voted for this. Twice.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Both parties were captured by the rich before we were born, and have gotten worse every cycle, respective of their party. We are being held hostage, even if a quarter of them trust the ones most screwing them to represent them, and only half of them are party stalwarts, it's like 13 percent that know what they are doing and supporting, and most of them are evangelicals and religious crazies, and business dickheads. The rest are sheep. Democrat side too, sheep that trust the party, those that think they will benefit, then the majority of them that are just voting against the other party.

At least half of all voters are voting against the other party, and it's never been more clear how pointless that is in preventing the republicans from seizing absolute power, we stuck our necks out in 2020 and Biden did nothing with it, didn't even protect voting officials getting death threats. The democrats learned nothing, haven't changed anything, they will not stop the republicans, never were going to, and that's not their mission, preventing popular reform to revoke the license the rich have been granted is their reason for being, and we all know it.

So I disagree, voting democrat was never going to keep the republicans out with a captured democratic party.

[–] amorpheus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I didn't claim that Democrats are the salvation. I have no suggestions on fixing your political system. Just pointing out the fact that Trump was elected. Twice. So this goes even deeper than politicians and their cronies - it's a huge part of the population that's rotten along with them.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Nothing else like Putin gleefully watching the West being destabilized... anything that would mean the end of NATO and any other alliances with the US.

[–] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump was already a pedophile, narcissist, and idiot before he turned senile, but now that he is, he's well and truly is a global threat.

[–] amorpheus@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just to clarify, the only reason he's a threat is because Americans voted him into office twice.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

There's also the authoritarian billionaires backing him.

[–] randomname@scribe.disroot.org 2 points 2 days ago

The US and China: Who is better?

Just stumbled upon this image and it says more than thousands word imo.

[–] manuallybreathing@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The fact Netanyahu has a higher approval in australia than Xi proves western chauvanism is alive and well

[–] hector@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

I think that fact belies a media captured by corporate interests that have been pressured to give citizens a false impression, more than any fundamental fault in the australian people.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

We had a reputation in Australia? I'm honestly surprised our great president hasn't been filing slaap suits in australian courts for saying mean things about him, probably just an oversight on his part.

Australia has libel laws like the UK that allow the rich to crush anyone the criticizes them, forcing them into court to pay millions in lawyers. It's bad enough here in the US and we have more freedom of speech in that regard, especially to criticize public figures, the bar here is if a public figure you have to say the false statements that harm them with actual malice and knowing the statements are false, if I recall. Sarah Palin tried to overturn that precedent suing the NYTimes recently and scotus didn't overturn it yet either. Yet.

But it's only going to get worse from here on out. When they choose a new leader, presuming they fix elections for that new leader and the democrats don't take it back, an overwhelmingly likely probability at this point, our leadership will get worse, even as the new leader might not be such a blowhard, they will be able to get more done.

Once elections are fixed they will get much worse obviously, and the Aussies will become more supplicants, vassal states, than junior partners.
