Nothing would delight me more than seeing her name on the ballot. We need more people like her and Mamdani in politics

Honestly we need people even further to the left of her at this point but if it’s her or a neolib I’m AOC all day baby let’s goooo

We got where we are through steady shifts to the right over the course of decades. As nice as it would be to just vote in who we need right now, getting 50% of the population to agree about who that would be is impossible.

AOC may not be perfect, but she'd represent a first of (hopefully) many steady shifts to the left that will eventually get us where we need to be. Of course that's if she even gets that far in the first place with how corrupt the system is. I'm not sure we'll get the chance without truly fighting and dying for it.

I hope it goes much faster than the incrementalists claim it will.

Every small step will be a battle. Republicans have the benefit of having all the wealthy elite on their side to fund the incremental push, we have to fight against it like salmon swimming up a river. We'll be a pink half-dead mess when we get to the end if we're lucky enough to get there at all.

Every small step will be a battle.

Then we'll need better politicians. We'll get nothing but capitulation from our current crop of useless bastards.

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, that would be the fight. AOC is the best chance we've got right now, and if she wins, we'll need to get more people in that are closer to her political stance, then we can choose the leftmost from there, and so on. It's not dissimilar to selecting for preferable traits across several breeding generations for crops and livestock, a notoriously slow and steady process.

We have shifted back left since Clinton. But not far enough.

[–] CaptainMan251@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I was gonna say, she is a great start. I would vote the shit out of her.

Lady is such a legit inspiration. Crazy to see how far she's come

Here's a fuller quote from a different article:

“In this op-ed that Bezos paid for in The Washington Post, there was a veiled threat — it was the elite saying if you want this job, you just stepped out of line,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “What’s funny about that is they assume my ambition is positional. They assume my ambition is a title or a seat. My ambition is way bigger than that. My ambition is to change this country. Presidents come and go, elected officials come and go, single payer healthcare is forever.”

  • Presidents come and go, elected officials come and go, single payer healthcare is forever.”

Fuck ya

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

That sounds more like a campaign statement than anything else.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thank goodness. Everyone else was campaigning on keeping things the same

[–] vagrancyand@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well that was quite literally Harris' 2024 campaign so.. yeah. Most dems want to keep things the same and often campaign on it. At worst they dress more of the same with co-opted progressive ideas that historically have ended with just more of the same.

[–] TowardsTheFuture@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 week ago

Good ol “nothing will fundamentally change” Biden. And “yeah what Biden said” Harris. And I can’t wait for “what they said but also fuck trans kids even more” Newsome.

You must protect, she's one of the few decent ones.

Not bad for a dancing waitress, bravo!

[–] CaptainMan251@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Hopefully it inspires more people to get involved, locally at the least
