That's the sturdiest pigeon nest I've ever seen, by a long shot.

[–] IDew@lemmy.zip 50 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It has steel reinforcement

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Yeah I think in a fit of irony the anti pigeon spikes made a perfect structural scaffolding for the pigeon to build the ideal nest.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 week ago

I didn't know pigeons were capable of this judging by their usual performance

[–] wieson@feddit.org 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

This is not a rock pigeon as you usually see in the cities. This is a wood pigeon, they live in the countryside in pairs of two. And are chunky.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah, I'm out in the sticks and have loads of them in the countryside around mine. Their nests are usually just as shit as what we call feral pigeons (rock pigeons / rock doves). This is objectively the best pigeon nest I've ever seen by a country mile.

[–] Redjard@reddthat.com 4 points 1 week ago

Oh so the reason rock pigeon nests are so bad is that we took all the rocks from them so now they can't build.

It's not that they're shit at building nests, they're just built to a different spec.

Pigeon is another name for rock dove, so named because they live on rocks, instead of in trees. Arboreal birds have to build their nests to cradle their eggs so they don't fall out of trees. Rock dives just need enough stuff circling their eggs so they don't roll away.

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 25 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They should just lay cube eggs smh

[–] white_nrdy@programming.dev 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That would be really fun to push out I imagine

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago

Ask the wombats how they do it.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Look I have been saving up my evolution points for a square anus or a cloaca: how much is a square cloaca?

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Normal anuses (and I guess cloacas too) could adjust to squares with little effort, issue would be the square eggs.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago

Explains why they adapted to life in human cities so well.

[–] mech@feddit.org 36 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pigeons make nests wherever and with whatever they can find. They make the worst nests but also the best.

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That motherfucker has it figured out!

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

For real, I think I found my new financial planner

[–] Matty_r@programming.dev 23 points 1 week ago

Why use lot stick, when few stick do trick?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I had one in my previous house that build its nest on a ledge no bigger than an inch wide and everytime she laid an egg, it splattered on my back porch.

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 4 points 1 week ago

You can clearly see how they exist cuz of us by the fact that we shitted their survival instinct

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

This nest probably took half as long to build too. The sticks never fell off, they fall at structurally sound angles and the tension as they stack allowed for less sticks to be used to achieve the same height.

A lot of young pigeons aren't learning proper building techniques and it's really a shame.

Anti-pigeon spikes and sturdy conveniently located nest weaving starter spikes have a lot in common

That's a mud dauber nest. No Bee

The chillest 'wasp' there ever was.

They have absolutely zero parental instincts. You can smash that nest right in front of them, and they won't even blink. 😐

Further proof that birds aren't real. The anti bird measures don't work anymore because the titanium alloy the replacement birds were made of is impenetrable.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't often see the rare "birds used to be real" take on this matter.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's the entire basis of Birds Aren't Real.

The term “Birds Aren’t Real” refers to biological “Birds” no longer existing on United States soil. After the government forcibly made the entire species extinct in the 20th century, all of these real birds were replaced with surveillance drones designed to look just like Birds. To simplify- Birds no longer exist in the U.S. as a biological lifeform, thus, Birds Aren’t Real!

🤯

Next you're going to tell me there's an SCP doc about it

[–] mhzawadi@lemmy.horwood.cloud 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

our work has a collared dove that has done that

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

your work has it? aren't there laws against that?

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah, you can own pigeons. My dad raised them when he was young. He got started by blindly reaching up under overpass structures and grabbing a handful of them. Once he had babies he hand raised them and he could let them out and they'd always come back home.

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 2 points 1 week ago

More of your dads pigeon stories please!

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 8 points 1 week ago

Reject government control. Tell em to suck it, and be ready to back it up.

This is the most self defeating use of power I have seen since the last news story about US foreign policy I read
