they aren’t obligated to block critical funding for housing either, they made their decision and ive made mine

the real pain for me is that when i went to vote there was like 5 nutter parties all of them right wing, the libs and then just labor and the greens on the left, limited choices for anyone left wing :(

to me $10 billion for social housing is a massive win and huge progress over previous governments, the greens demanding cherries on top by blocking it right up until the last minute in the middle of a housing crisis is a joke, they took credit for forcing labor to go around them and give money directly to the states as well

the greens are free to pick their battles, in my opinion they picked the wrong one, for that after 15 years of preferencing the greens above labor they are now behind it

No idea I'm in Brisbane but are you talking about federal labor or victorian state labor?

because it’s stupid, pacifism doesn’t lead to less war, it leads to more suffering

it’s the equivalent of saying don’t stand up to your bully just let him get away with it, in the end you lose and suffer more

Facebook is a disaster that is happening in real time and yet

Facebook has for some reason decided I need to see a constant stream of compact, cutesy studio apartments with a variation of “this is all I need” captions.

Oh you still use it

There's still a lot going on globally:

https://www.marinetraffic.com/

But I don't expect the US to have a fun ride

This economist says there’s a 90% chance of a recession. Here’s the math.

During the 2018 trade war with China, the U.S. average tariff rate increased from 2% to 3%. Studies show that the impact on gross domestic product was between 0.25% and 0.7%.

Using the low end of the estimated impact, and Trump’s plan that at the moment calls for double-digit tariff rates, Slok says the negative impact on GDP in 2025 could be almost 4 percentage points — and that doesn’t even include the negative impact from uncertainty for consumer spending decisions and business planning.

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/this-economist-says-theres-a-90-chance-of-a-recession-unless-tariff-policies-are-changed-e43c40d1?mod=home_lead

So a 4% hit to GDP when GDP last year in the US increase by 2.8% does not sound good

I appreciate the news, but keep it realistic and well sourced. As in, link to the actual publication that makes this statement.

Yeah the post was pretty low quality, I did find this though:

Power-sector CO2 hits ‘all-time high’ in 2024 despite record growth for clean energy

https://www.carbonbrief.org/power-sector-co2-hits-all-time-high-in-2024-despite-record-growth-for-clean-energy/

tldr: power demand went up faster than renewables could be installed because of heat waves particularly in India, if it was an average year then renewables would have outpaced new demand, so on this basis renewables are still expected to outpace new demand over the next 5 years as there's still tons of projects being implemented

tbh I've been complaining about India for a while now, all the gains the west is making are being undone by them

I wish more countries were helping India install more renewables, low interest loans, lending tech expertise, whatever it takes

He did get a lot of things right:

US officials told their British counterparts: If you are “deemed not to be doing what you are told you will suddenly find out missiles won’t fire and planes won’t fly. You have got to be careful.” This will be the end of US weapons exports globally. www.thetimes.com/article/a591...

Has anyone got any more sources on this quote?

If it’s real how quickly can we cancel aukus

So a pretty general article but this part stood out to me:

in vintage Lambie style she warned him not to "suck up".

"[America] need[s] Australia more than what we need them, and they need our critical minerals. So, if Trump wants to play with Australia, I suggest you start getting your cowboy hats on," Lambie said.

"… Don't play bloody Trump's bluff. Don't play it. You don't move Albo. Don't you move on him. Don't you dare. Don't suck up."

Why does she think they rely on us more than them?

Average Australian has an iphone, uses facebook/instagram/whatsapp/facebook messenger/marketplace, google, gmail and youtube, and all its services along with Apple/Microsoft, most corporates are damn near 100% Microsoft, Microsoft Windows on Microsoft laptops with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Edge and MIcrosoft Office365, all our movies are American, all our top hit singles in music are American, TV shows, netflix, Food with McDonalds, KFC, products with Amazon, Amazon prime etc Walk around a shopping centre and count the NBA/NFL/American tshirts

Why does she think Americans rely on us more than us on them? We are deeply embedded in America at this point

Sandell said while Greens’ primary vote held up, they did not pick up any of Labor voters – despite the party’s decision not to field a candidate in the seat.
