What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is a selfhosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top.

Think of it as an opensource alternative to reddit!

LOL Not really, but boy it has been a day. Started at 7:00 am and I finally resolved (?) the issue. In fact I've got through every last bit of my network, and at this point in the evening, I actually don't have a solid reason why the issue was present. Something in my VPN settings glitched, or something got triggered on pFsense and got hung up....something, something with Tailscale. It wasn't CLoudflare this time. LOL

You ever do so much to a problem that when you 'fix' it, you have no real idea what the fix truly was? You ever have a problem and find all the shit you cobbled together in the name of 'just get it running and back online'? I did, and decided that I would fix that shit too. It took all flippin' day.

You guys that do this for a living....I salute you! jebus crispies!

ETA: 8 bells and all's well today.

Air traffic at the Eindhoven airport in the south of the Netherlands has resumed after a suspension that lasted several hours due to multiple drone sightings, the Dutch defence minister has said.

Traffic resumed around 11pm (22:00 GMT), Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans said on Saturday, two hours after he had first reported the disruption.

Separately on Saturday, the Defence Ministry said the Dutch military opened fire at drones over Volkel Air Base in the east of the country on Friday, but no wreckage was recovered.

Security staff at the base reported the drones between 7pm and 9pm on Friday (between 17:00 and 19:00 GMT), prompting the air force to fire ground-based weapons to take them down, the ministry said in a statement.

If anyone bought the previous one, how was it and what do you think about this upgrade?

Excerpts:

The easiest way to start with Zigbee or Thread just got even better, with Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2. This USB adapter plugs into your Home Assistant system and opens up a world of smart device options. Between its precisely tuned antenna and next-generation chip, it’s a big step up for anyone looking to connect Zigbee, Thread, or Matter devices directly to Home Assistant.

For all our Zigbee fans, this might be the best upgrade you’ll make all year. We’ve squeezed every inch out of this technology, giving it the best range, speed, and stability possible. The same can be said for our Thread-heads out there (yeah, I just came up with that cool nickname 😎), making Matter or ESPHome Thread connections rock-solid. Pick whether to dedicate your Connect ZBT-2 to run a Zigbee or Thread network, and it’ll provide the best experience for that protocol (and if all these names just sound like new streaming services to you, check out our explainer below).

If you’re one of those people still rocking three different hubs, what are you waiting for… another giant server outage to take down your smart home? Ditch those cloud hubs and take back your privacy today. As an added bonus, your devices will likely get more controls, range, and resilience.

Available today starting at $49 and €45 (that’s the MSRP, and pricing will vary by retailer). Designed and built by Nabu Casa and the Open Home Foundation, every purchase helps fund the development of Home Assistant. For quick specs, details, and where to buy, visit our beautiful Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2 page.

Open Design

When we say open, we mean it. In the physical sense, it’s easy to open Connect ZBT-2 as there are no clips or glue, just some lovely standard Phillips head screws. The board has a gorgeous silkscreen, which explains all the chips, exposed pins, and pads.

The bootloader is unlocked, and all the firmware we build is open source and available to modify. We’ve also built a new website that makes it easy to flash the stock firmware, and in the future, experiment with new firmware. We’ll also be providing the PCB and outer casing files if you want to tinker with those. Openness makes our products better… literally, since our community helps us find and fix bugs.

I’m not sure if this is the best place to ask but it’s the first that came to mind. I’m thinking it’s probably something completly custom that Bruce made but I like thinking that Batman is a Linux user. specify Arch

I have ADHD, and my therapist has confirmed it, just like the results of ADHD tests. He isn't bad, he greatly helps me with my depression. However, he doesn't provide an official diagnosis nor prescribe pills.

He says it's my trait and that I should learn to live with it. Like, take more breaks, find a motivation. Easy to say, hard to do. I can't keep up with the strategies he suggests, and I feel like I'm not trying hard enough.

The world doesn't wait for me. This trait is ruining my work and my routine, and it's stealing my money and my time. I can't start tasks, I can't concentrate, and I can't do anything boring or unpleasant.

For example, I can stare at a wall in the middle of a work task, with my hand over the keyboard, and lose myself in thoughts about my hobby. And I don't give a damn at this moment about all my reminders, the absence of irritants, and so on.

Of course, sometimes I can force myself "just to do it", but it costs a ton of energy (btw, because of my depression, I have a tiny amount of energy). It often requires a ton of luck, too.

Is this normal? Am I just complaining?

Ethan Sholly, the driving force behind selfh.st, one of the most recognized communities uniting self-hosting enthusiasts, has published the latest results of his annual survey on the community’s preferences, collecting 4,081 responses from self-hosting practitioners worldwide.

No surprise there: Linux is overwhelmingly dominant, chosen by more than four out of five self-hosters (81%). In other words, for self-hosters operating at bare-metal, virtualised, or container-based infrastructure, Linux remains the backbone.

In fact, this result aligns closely with broader trends: according to Wikipedia, Linux holds a 63% share of global server infrastructure. Aside from the hobby aspect, most respondents said privacy was their main reason for self-hosting, which, as you know, remains one of Linux’s strongest selling points. Now, back to the numbers.

Or is there a way to make it somehow auto skip? Figured out they opened Chrome instead of Firefox... Now I am interested in finding some small Bluetooth controller to skip videos in a playlist.

I am a mother of four, and every day I struggle to keep my children safe, fed, and healthy. Please… don’t stop supporting us. My heart breaks when I see my kids in need and I can’t help them.

Even a small donation can ease their hunger, their pain, and give them a little hope. Please… help me protect my children. https://gofund.me/f6e9cc9d

Allowing the opposition to set the national agenda has provoked an absurd situation that is debasing national politics, stymying important decisions and distracting us from the issues that really need to be addressed to improve lives and opportunities – in health, education, the care sector, inequality, social cohesion, climate change and innovation.

Seven years since our first top 200 common passwords list, we’ve witnessed how credential trends have changed — and what has remained the same. Each year, we rediscover people’s tendency to opt for weak passwords that prioritize convenience over security.

However, this year, we decided to ask ourselves: How do different generations treat their password use? From the silent generation to the “zoomers,” we analyzed which passwords are the most common among different user groups. As it turns out, bad password habits are trendy no matter how old you are.
