Taiwan’s future should be decided by Taiwanese, German-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group chairman Till Steffen said yesterday, while giving former president Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) a tour of the German parliament building.

Tsai [Ing-wen, the former Taiwan President] arrived in Berlin ... and ... delivered a keynote speech at the Berlin Freedom Conference titled “Threats facing democracies: Taiwan’s experience defending freedom.”

Tsai ... attended a tea gathering at the Bundestag, joined by former friendship group chairman of 15 years Klaus-Peter Willsch, German defense affairs specialist Roderich Kiesewetter and Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth Parliamentary State Secretary Michael Brand.

“Similarly, Taiwan’s future should be decided by a parliament freely elected by the Taiwanese people. This is the democratic choice we support,” he added.

As long as democratic partners worldwide continue to support Taiwan, it would be able to go from “Taiwan can help” to “Taiwan is supporting,” Tsai said.

Prior to her visit, Tsai said that as a trustworthy member of the international community, Taiwan would continue to stand with Europe and other like-minded countries to demonstrate its commitment to freedom and democracy.

Taiwan strongly backs Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s (NYSE:TSM) first European chip plant, former president Tsai Ing-wen said on Tuesday during a visit to the fab site in Dresden, Germany.

Tsai said Taiwan believes in the Dresden project as deeply as it believes in Taiwan Semiconductor itself after European Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. president Christian Koitzsch welcomed her to "Silicon Saxony." She received a briefing from Koitzsch and Taiwan Semiconductor Europe general counsel Gunnar Thomas, then met Taiwanese engineers to hear about construction progress and life in Germany, the Taipei Times reported on Thursday.

A Cloudflare spokesperson told Ars that the cloud services provider saw “a spike in unusual traffic to one of Cloudflare’s services,” which “caused some traffic passing through Cloudflare’s network to experience errors.”

Like, I'm probably answering myself here but I think it is pointed out by gatekeepers who can't stand the idea of community growth and everything should adhere to some other unfound arbitrary way to keep things 'pure' in a community.

When they forget that they too, started out as new and that they too probably have had other people sneer at them for simply being new. So now they go around and pretend this is some kind of ultimate shut-down insult to people who're just trying to contribute to the fediverse by devaluing it by saying "OH U JUST SOME DAY OLD ACCOUNT, NOBODY SHOULD MIND THEM!".

So, with the Cloudflare outage, I have found my self hosted services are not accessible outside of the home. I use a SWAG reverse proxy from linuxserver.io and bought my domain through cloudflare. I'm fairly new at this stuff, so is this a secure way of doing things? Does cloudflare have access to my data? I'm fairly new at this, so I apologize if this is a silly question. Is there some way to self host what cloudflare does?

I really dont like this centralization of the internet into a few gigantic companies having every site under their wings. And then something goes wrong and millions of web sites are affected.

It also gives these companies the power to shut down any of their user sites.

On the other hand, handling a ddos attack is hardly possible without them these days.

thankfully the two websites I use aren't edit: chatGPT is down but deepseek isn't... scratch one more chinese victory.
