edit 3 - me humming the melody https://voca.ro/1fiQl9tlBHoh I also want to stress again it wasn't a slow or chill song. It had energy very similar to I Feel For You by Chaka Khan, and the melody I'm humming was made up by what sounded like the opening piano in Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears, except in major. The singer's vocals also complimented the melody since the vocals had a similar intonation as the melody I'm humming. I only caught one or two words but I swear she says "nothing really matters" or "nothing ever matters" "nothing truly matters" or "nothing matters"

It's an 80s pop/dance/house song. There's this dancy, warm electric bass that's constantly in the background. The electric bass sounds like this (4:15 minute mark) the melody of it (the bass part) also sounded a little similar to what is in that video.

Then there's this very 80's instrument that plays in it between some lines, that's also very weird. It goes like "DU-NA-NU-NAAHH-NAAA" in quick succession. It's a sharp highish pitched synthetic/electronic sound. It sounded like something from this old game called Road Trip Adventure. It (referring to that one instrument/electronic sound) had a similar soundfont.

There's also a piano sound that's kind of low pitched. Sounded electronic/like a synth, but close to a real piano with the sound being held on to a little longer. I also remember the singer saying "yoouuuu" in a high pitched way.

The song is very energetic and sounds like something you'd hear at a party or disco. It also sounded a little romantic. I heard it in a shop earlier and now it's driving me mad lol. ChatGPT keeps saying it's a 90s Madonna song, but that's not it. It is a very euphoric and nostalgic sounding song even though I've never heard it before. It almost sounds like she's celebrating in the song.

The vibe/emotion/energy it gave is most similar to I Feel For You by Chaka Kahn, especially the later part. It was also fast-ish.

== edit ==

The song MAY have had this weird "get, get get down!" line in it, or something that sounded similar to that (I was talking to someone in the shop so my memory of it is muffled) but I am not 100% certain.

The song wasn't slow and sounded heavenly.

== edit 2 ==

I can't really whistle, but the part of the melody I remember most went like this https://voca.ro/17IhmkCs2oHu there was this piano that sounded a bit synth that made up much of that melody. There was also an electric bass sound. The melody was slightly slower than my whistled version of it. The piano sounded similar to the piano in Head over Heels by Tears for Fears except it sounded like the major version of it if that makes sense?

What it isn't

  • Madonna - Nothing Really Matters

  • Missing You by Diana Ross

  • How Can I Ease the Pain by Lisa Fischer

  • Gotta Tell You by Samantha Mumba

  • Electric Feel by MGMT

  • Don’t Walk Away by Jade

  • Tell Me by Groove Theory

  • Right Here by SWV

  • Queen Bohemian Rhapsody

  • Sinead O’Connor Nothing compares to you

  • What Have You Done For Me Lately - Janet Jackson

  • Platinum Blonde’s “It Doesn’t Really Matter”

  • Janet Jackson - Doesn’t Really Matter

  • nothing really matters by David Guetta

  • Since You’ve Gone” – Belinda Carlisle (1986)

  • Basia - New Day For You

  • Ain’t Nobody by Rufus and Chaka Khan

  • PROM - Nothing Really Matters Anymore

  • D-Mob feat. Cathy Dennis - That's The Way Of The World

It wasn't a slow or chill song, it was a song you'd hear at some dance party.

In August 2025, two nearly identical lawsuits were filed: one against United (in San Francisco federal court) and one against Delta Air Lines (in Brooklyn federal court). They claim that each airline sold more than one million “window seats” on aircraft such as the Boeing 737, Boeing 757, and Airbus A321, many of which are next to blank fuselage walls rather than windows.

Passengers say they paid seat-selection fees (commonly $30 to $100+) expecting a view, sunlight, or the comfort of a genuine window seat — and say they would not have booked or paid extra had they known the seat lacked a window.

As reported by Reuters, United’s filing argues that it never promised a view when it used the label “window” for a seat. According to the airline, “window” refers only to the seat’s location next to the aircraft wall, not a guarantee of an exterior view.

To test this thesis, The Economist, working with GlobeScan, a consulting and polling firm, asked 32,000 people in 32 countries for their views on China and America between July and September. The results are startling. Since we last asked the question a year ago, China has made big gains as the world’s preferred “leading power”

Preference for China strongly correlates with age: the younger the respondent, the more likely they are to welcome Chinese leadership

When it comes to picking China as the leading power, the largest regional increases were in Latin America and Europe. In Brazil, Canada, Mexico, South Africa and Spain

When Friedrich Merz became Germany’s chancellor this year, he promised to revive a moribund economy, rebuild the nation’s neglected infrastructure and making the country relevant on the global stage again. His failure to deliver on many of these core issues has not only helped energize far-right parties like the Alternative for Germany

Merz also caused confusion at an October meeting of European Union leaders, when he incorrectly reported a trade agreement with the Mercosur bloc had been concluded. He later brushed off the mistake as a minor issue.

Ukrainian investigators say that a criminal organization led by a business partner of Mr. Zelensky siphoned off and then laundered $100 million from the country’s publicly owned nuclear power company and engaged in other fraud and financial crimes.

But the revelations touch a particular political vulnerability for Mr. Zelensky. This summer, he moved to curtail the independence of the anticorruption investigators as they pursued the case.

The revelations are a remarkable reversal for Mr. Zelensky. He had once cultivated an image as a leader who would open up Ukraine’s politics by sweeping away the wealthy insiders known as oligarchs. Now, nearly seven years since the last election, and with a new one nowhere in sight because of the war, many Ukrainians see him as operating within a small, closed circle, unbound by the rules.

I've been trying to write this piece for years. Every time I get started I'm just overwhelmed with paralyzing visions of the FOSS commentariat accusing me of WrongThink, more so here on the fediverse than anywhere else.

But I'm scared and tired and we urgently need to get our shit together.

When two dating apps, Blued and Finka, disappeared from the Apple AppStore in China on November 11, a whole world threatened to disappear.

The apps are two of the most popular among China’s LGBT+ community. Blued had been downloaded tens of millions of times, according to the BBC.

In taking them down, the authorities removed two major LGBT+ spaces, leaving little in their place.

[...]

Apple said it removed the apps “based on an order from the Cyberspace Administration of China”.

[...]

The disappearance of both Blued and Finka “will affect a lot of LGBT+ people's lives very significantly”, [the specialist in China’s queer culture at the University of Nottingham, Bao] Hongwei says. “It sends a chilling and very clear message to ordinary LGBT+ people that they can't pursue their own personal interests and desires.”

[...]

Before targeting Blued and Finka, the Chinese authorities led a campaign against authors of the “Boy's Love”, or Danmei, same-sex romance stories, some of which feature explicit love scenes between men.

Several Danmei writers, most of whom are female, have reported being arrested and questioned by the authorities, and in recent months two major Danmei sites have either shut down, or drastically reduced and toned down their content.

In September, a censored version of American-Australian horror film “Together” was released in China with a gay marriage scene digitally altered to show a heterosexual couple.

And in early 2024, China’s dominant social platform Weibo removed viral images of Chinese dancer and transgender icon Jin Xing waving a rainbow flag.

Despite being a high-profile and immensely popular celebrity in China for years, venues across the country dropped performances by her dance troupe without explanation in January 2025.

[...]

Why is China’s LGBT+ community being targeted in this way? Rather than being specifically singled out, it is likely that it is a collateral victim of Xi Jinping’s notion of “common prosperity”.

Historically, common prosperity has meant an effort by the Chinese Communist Party to promote economic and social equality.

But in contemporary Chinese politics, “the Maoist principles about equality have more to do with uniformity,” says Hildebrandt. “You gain equality by being more like everybody else. You don't gain equality by being diverse.”

In a bid to create greater conformity within the population, “there has been a push in China to reinforce traditional family values and, in some cases, traditional masculine values,” adds Lanteigne.

At the same time, China’s population growth and economy are slowing. “The current population growth couldn't support economic growth,” explains Hongwei, meaning there has been a push to encourage heterosexual couples to have larger families to ensure an abundant future workforce.

[...]

In this context of wider policies to promote common prosperity, the LGBT+ community is not the only group facing repression, but it is an easy target.

Since the Covid pandemic, “the Chinese government has endorsed nationalist discourse and LGBT culture is seen as very politicised siding with Western ideologies”, says Hongwei.
