Documents obtained by Declassified Australia show that following the June 2019 Federal Police raids on the ABC and News Corp, the Department of Home Affairs began secret efforts to revive a four-decade dead system to censor the Australian media.

The Australian Federal Police had raided the offices of the ABC and News Corp journalist Annika Smethurst on 4 and 5 June 2019, in response to their reporting on alleged war crimes and a proposed domestic spying plan. Following the raids, Mike Pezzullo, then secretary of the Department of Home Affairs — a portfolio that included ASIO and the AFP — texted a close adviser to then Liberal prime minister Scott Morrison, Scott Briggs, with plans to censor the media. These texts had been brought to light in a 2023 report in The Age.

The documents show that, following Pezzullo’s proposal, Home Affairs officials looked to Britain’s Defence and Security Media Advisory Committee for assistance in reinstating D-Notices in Australia.

British D-Notices often seek to censor reporting on UK state crimes and other malfeasance.

And what kind of publicly funded health care system still doesn't recognise dental work as foundational to good, general health?

The one you likely voted for ?

Not once dies she metion it's part of The Greens policy to change that. "Dental into Medicare and tax billionaires" apparently doesn't resonate.

I started using the hourly chime on my wrist watch and found it helps ground me. The trouble is the chime can be disruptive at night, and it's tedious to turn it on and off every day. I'm hoping to find a clock (not a wrist watch)-- of decent build quality-- with an adjustable chime (volume and active window). I don't care if the clock mechanisms are mechanical or not, so long as the chime is pleasant.

I'm struggling to get satisfying web-search results, but I thought others with ADHD may already have a similar solution. Anyone have a clock with a chime you'd recommend?

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Peace talks in Istanbul between Pakistan and Afghanistan were at a deadlock on Friday, a day after both sides accused each other of mounting border clashes that risked breaching a ceasefire brokered by Qatar.

The update on the talks by Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar came after an Afghan official said four Afghan civilians were killed and five others wounded in clashes between Pakistani and Afghan forces along their shared border despite the joint negotiations.

There was no immediate comment from Kabul about the Pakistani claim. Pakistan’s state media reported that the Pakistan delegation is leaving for the airport to return home. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also told Pakistan’s independent Geo news channel that “as we speak, the talks are over.”
